the high pressure zone is by the cowl. when you open it up, airflow enters the engine bay, it doesnt exit.

the extractor allows the airflow straight through the radiator. (see: ford gt, shelby gt1, all ferraris, etc.)


intersting enough, the shebly seems to have both:

is the position of the hoot vent pivotal or not?

yes, it has to be right after the radiator, maybe a few inches

Actually the shelby having both makes a good deal of sense. With the extractor doing the work to cool the radiator it puts the engine in it's own little...pocket. With the pocket clearly being a bit smaller than the entire engine bay temps would increase more rapidly. (being a v8 doesn't hurt either).

In my ideal application I would vent under hood air through the fenders, pull them out a little and create a low pressure. It might mess up the streamline and air flow across the side of the car so maybe it's not perfect, but it'd pull air out the back of the engine bay. coupled with a extractor hood and a completely sealed underbody. I just need to figure out how to vent the differential, and might need a transmission cooler at that point.
