No More Turbo Miata
#61
Reminds me of when I was 16 and found a 65 Impala SS convertable with a 427 dropped in it. My Dad refused to sign for the car (even though I was paying), he said I would kill myself in it.
I wound up with a 64 ford 6 cylinder with a 3 on the tree. Given how stupid I was with that car, he was probably right, I'd be dead if I had bought the other one for my first car.

He got me a 63 straight six Falcon. It died on left turns. I would floor it to get as much speed as possible before I went into a left turn. LOL
It would only do 75 And I drove the **** out of it. It was slower than a moped.Lol
I didn't get something fast till I was 19.
Then I was drag racing everyone I could find. Lol
Your dad is smart.

I wanna join in! here's my first miata....I really wish i'd taken better pictures of this car post-wreck than i did, but taking the few i did pissed me off enough...i was pissed at myself for weeks over this wreck and it wasn't even my fault:

OP, have you crashed before? Does he have good reason to be this concerned? I managed to go off a cliff in my first miata without a turbo, although the suspension was all funky with stock springs up front and tein ss in the back.
I still want and hope to get a turbo soon, but I totally understand my parents train of thought when they are opposed to a turbo (however warped it may be).
Sorry, no pics of the wreck.

I look at this whole situation the same way I look at the guns in the home issue. Rather than keep the gun away from the kid until they're an adult, show him/her how to use it, get familiar with it, but most of all teach them to respect it and the damage it can do if mishandled.

Man you're only 17 and you dare to argue about no ticket or car crash? This is nonsense! You're not even driving for 5 years, it's just normal that you don't have either and if you had just one, I'd tell you to get a ******* driving lesson!
Just wait a month, it's not a ******* year! Quit bitching your dad or else I'll think that he would have be better for him to make a stain on the bedsheet than on the earth!

Holy **** I was an Idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol Man my grammar was horrible and look how much I bitched!!!! Almost a year later My parents have now given me MY title, and have discussed ( in a very intelligent way) with my father about turboing and He's convinced I'll learn by my mistakes. But most of all learn the mechanics of my car. Which to me is more important than just going fast. He knows I'll be boosted sooner or later but he knows now that I'll be 1 million times smarter than I was Back then!!!!!!!! Ahhh I'm so excited now!!!!!! Happy ending soo far!!! lol

i think if i had a turbo anything at 18 i would have killed myself. it's not like being alive an extra 30 days is going to give you amazing driving skills, but i suppose i can see where he is coming from. me being me now i wouldn't push the issue. at 18 i probably would have.
you could always just swap in an unimportant fuse.

When I was 18 and bought all of my turbo parts, my dad challenged me that I couldn't get everything installed and running before he got back from a 5-day trip. I got it done at 3am on the 4th day. He was proud of me, and having that story on my resume has helped get me two jobs so far.
