Where does the oil pickup go to from the oil pan? I was changing the oil today and when I was putting new oil in the fill, it was coming out of the hole I drilled in the pan. Best I can explain it was I would pour a funnel's worth in and nothing. Then I would put a funnel's worth in again, but kinda toward the front of the engine, using the flex spout to send it that way. (if that makes sense) I don't know if its the oil working its way down through the motor, or if I'm sending it down the pickup tube and out a hole where I drilled.

I am just getting ready to loctite the fitting and thought.....maybe something isn't right. Its such a small hole and its so dark to see in there, I cant tell if I just fucked up the baffle or if I did indeed hit the pickup as well.

I'm wondering if I should just pull the oil pan to be sure. If I was to pull the oil pan, could I access the pickup tube? This way if it did get hit, I could JB weld it up. What do you guys think?

Manifold and wastegate are on, going to put the DP and turbo on now!

The pickup? It goes to the pump inlet. But that's totally irrelevant to the process of pouring oil in through the filler cap.

I wouldn't be too worried about oil coming out the hole you just drilled however. When you pour oil into the fill hole in the valve cover, it just runs down through the many return passages in the head (the same way the oil normally flows back down after being pumped up) down the block, whereupon some of drips straight down to the bottom of the pan and some of it oozes down the walls until it gets to the bottom. It would be natural for a small amount of oil to come oozing out the hole, presuming you haven't yet installed the fitting. Of course, now that you've contaminated the area with oil again, you need to re-clean it so that the JB-Weld you're going to use on the fitting will stick.

Congrats on getting it done. It took me 7 hours to do mine (really afraid of hitting the pick up) and it does feel really great to have it done. Did you have that moment where you look inside the hole and see maybe 1 1/2 threads and thought you screwed up?

Thanks Joe! That makes me feel ALOT better. I was thinking about the process of the oil pumping through the motor, trying. Thinking if it somehow would go backwards down the tube and spray out a hole (if I made one) and out of the hole for the fitting.

I have the area all cleaned, and I'm going to loctite the threads and then JB weld around it.

When the drill finally broke through I was like "ughh, what the **** did I break" It feels soooo good to have it done properly, rather than the **** stock drain hole. I swear my drain hose from turbo to the block was like 14ft long.....

Congrats, Vash, it really cleans up the bay to remove that snake stock line. I mean I'm glad that Mazda left us a drain line to use, but on the intake side?? Confusing.
