Default JDM engines

my 1.6L has 209,000 km or 130,000 mi on it and is burning oil so I want to look for a newer engine probably used JDM. Is there any difference between the North American B6's and the Japanese ones? Anything I should keep from my old engine to swap onto this one? Is going to another 1.6L a good idea, or would you guys recommend going to the 1.8L? I am looking to eventually make around 200- max300hp out of this car.

Well, a common swap is to go with the 1.8. I think you are looking at an 8-10hp gain with the 1.8. Im pretty sure there is no difference between the jdm motor and the us motor. If you want to go the cheap route, you could go with a 1.6 and the greddy kit. However, now that we have the begi s for less than 2k, the 1.8 would be a good choice.

"JDM" imported engines are typically junk. Avoid.

mine lasted two years almost to the day....it had oil consumption problems from day one, which i blame for it's ultimate demise.

from what i hear all over the interwebz is that with JDM motors you are gambling, you can get a good one, you can get a bad one, the difference is usually in price, you get what you pay for...
just get one from someone you can trust, like people from here
