I bought 2 supposely new Momo Start of Ebay not long ago and now I'm trying to install them and I just saw that some of the treads are stripped.... Like the 2 front holes of one seat and 1 front of the other.... What do I do now? Is piercing and tapping other holes in the fiberglass is safe or should I trow my 2 seats in the garbage?

Yeah I'm so unlucky.... The only thing I'm affraid is that the fiberglass shatters when piercing it. Or when braking hard that the bolt strip the fb and the seats come throught the windshield....

For the refund... I already left a good comment on ebay and it wasn't a compagny....

I wish I knew what to tell you man, but this is not something I ever came across.
I would assume that the bolt holes have to be reinforced, can you take pics of the area and maybe we can all chip in our thoughts after seeing it...

 

Can you re-tap the existing hole for a larger bolt?

dont know how helpful this is, but you can always buy some fiberglass/resin or something similar, fill the hole's, then redrill and re-thread new holes

 

This is what I was thinking about, however, Seats are one of the most important safety items period.

Do you really want to risk yourself with a fixed (as in once fubar'd, not fixed back) seat?

 

That's what I'm thinking about. Right now it's something like M8X1.25 (anyway, the stock bolt works) and in the holes that are stripped I can make an In and Out with the bolt.

Since the centerline of holes to holes in width and lenght is smaller than the rail I think I will simply pierce and tap something like 5/16X18 (it's almost the same thing as the M8) But I'm don't know if it's SAFE?

I'll try to take pictures tomorrow but I can't promise good ones because the cover of the seat... well... almost cover the holes too

 

I would just assume that the boltholes in the seat have to be a regular nut fiberglassed in please or welded to a metal structure that is altogether fiberglassed in, and if that is the case, I don't see how it would be unsafe to tap it to accept a thicker bolt, it should be safer in my opinion.

 

Get Fubard nut out and insert a T-bolt in its place. Use a washer both sides of surface twice the diameter of the hole to spread the loads. You will be fine.

 

I would fill the hole with fiberglass, then drill, then put in a metal sleeve and bolt it in with washers. Would probably be stronger than the original.

 

All your solution seems great but can't be done. There is a metal plate a the bottom of the holes but it's not taped and I assume it's only there so you don't bolt a too long bolt in there and get through the fibreglass and cover. I can't access the other side because of the cover.

I will try to pierce and tap it today. I'm thinking about either fibreglass it or loctite it.

Forgot to mention that the plates seem just under the original holes and don't run entirely through the seats

 

That plate is there to also spread the load of forces in an impact so the seat doesn't rip off its mounts. If you have enough padding at the thigh area, you will not even feel the bolt head if you just bolt through from the top. Had this issue w/ a Sparco fighter. I relocated two of the mounting bolts w/o any problems or discomfort. Nothing like cutting up $500 dollar seats, Right?
Just make sure to use big enough cut washers on both sides to spread the loads.
