I took the car back to the shop and they changed the tune to where now it isn't nearly as bad. It will idle within 50-70rpms constantly and remain around 1000-1100 rpms. A few times I'll get to a stop light and it will go down to around 900.. So whatever they did definitely made it drive-able, which I guess is all I can ask for. I am going to hook up my computer, save the tune and try and workout the idle step by step.

You should probably take some logs and post them up. Also logs of cruise and WOT so we can tell you how bad the tune really is.
I will get it up as soon as I get a charger for my hp mini! Thanks!

Seriously though, OP paid to swap in a 1.6? Then paid for turbo install and quickie power tune? Sounds like someone who should be buying a German car with a warranty. If you want to DD modded Miatas and enjoy the experience, DIY and learning is the way to go. It's the whole reason for this forum.
I got a 1.6 engine with 15k miles on it for $400, and considering I had already had suspension, clutch and flywheel, and a complete turbo kit for a 1.6, it made no sense for me to put in another engine.

I am not daily driving this car, however I wanted it to be stable enough that should be daily or my fiance's daily ever craps out, we have a reliable means of transportation.

And plus... it is my first project car and I got suckered into a lot of things... lesson learned. And I will never be caught in a german car... not cause I think they are inferior, just because Japanese culture is my life.. so I have to have a japanese car.

BTW, my real point was that to enjoy life with a turbo Miata, you need MOAR DIY.
