I am actually slightly embarassed to admit that I helped him get this car back on the road.
His head gasket failed and so he replaced it but couldn't get it running after he put it all together. We went back and forth (on Miata Club FB group) for a week or so with me asking how he set his cam/crank timing when he put his belt on. I described the proper way, he said he did it that way - until finally he said he didn't know - maybe (?)...
So I went to his house and when he opened his garage I saw things that troubled me, mainly that I recognized it as once being the car pictured in this thread. Either way, I helped him time the engine and put the belt back on. There were a couple other issues with that car but by the time I left that night it was back on the street.
Funny story - after it was fixed(?) we started talking about my car and the mods I have done. I told him that at my current state of tune I was somewhere just under 200hp. He claimed that his car was 200hp, so after a bit of pleasant chit-chat I took him for a drive around his neighborhood. Needless to say he ended that ride knowing that his butt-dyno needs some calibration.
I don't want to talk crap about the kid - he was nice enough to me. I have seen similar poor choices in modding a car but rarely have I seen EVERY bad decision in the same car at the same time.
Whatever, the car made him happy. Unfortunately I don't think the car will survive intact with what he wants out of it money wise. With as fubar as everything is (wiring, interior) I can't ever see it being put back together as a car.
Funny thing though - I gave him crap about the hood being lifted in the rear initially too. I didn't see the point in arguing at the time. BTW, he had no undertray.
I would completely understand if I lost props for actually letting this poor miata live...
PS- This car is EVERY bit as bad in person as it is in pictures, if not more so.

Just inspired me to repaint my prelude so I can sell it for $10K more than it's worth.
I just got the timing belt done, replaced the cam, crank, balance shaft seals. Had to get a new auto tensioner cause it was seized and wouldn't retract, radiator broke during install so that was replaced, and clearanced the valves and two new tires. Got another 130K to go on it now--feels like a whole new car--doesn't misfire on cold starts anymore.
Yes, we waited until 130K to do the TB on an interference motor.
