Spanked by an STi :jerkit:
That's a good lookin' car... wagons are cool. Seems reasonable he spent some dough on it to get that kind of power. I'm surprised he's not running a FMIC, or at least an STI scoop. You'd think he'd need it.
Yeah, the car gets heatsoaked now for sure, even with his nitrous spray on the top mount(which does help, for 1/4 mi runs). For some reason he hasn't wanted to go FMIC, but is going WI in a few months. Hes shooting for 330whp.
AN 05 STI at COBB stage 2 with an accessport tune is dead even with my NB. AN 06 GTO with K+N intake and SLP exhaust is just a tad slower from a 4th gear roll. This is at the same power level and boost pressure from the NE dyno day.
Have you gotten your car on a dyno? What mods? I bet you are in the 210-230whp range if you are dead even with the sti.
welp, my car with the mods in sig put down 360whp on 18psi (on a dynapack..a mustang dyno more like 330-340) and im still on the topmount as well...it put down 11.7@114 in the quarter mile with a 1.7 '60..the responsiveness and less lag of it makes it worth while, and unless you sit at a stoplight for ever, i have yet to experience major heatsoak or powerloss........savington, if you are ever in the area of sacramento/sanfrancisco/reno gimme a call, id be willing to drive within 100 miles of my house to try a turbo miata before the car is sold. or better yet, anyone know any turbo miata's in the northern california area? if so send them my way. im not in any way making a callout or anything, i just NEVER got to race a turbo miata and would love to. thanx
you should just be happy knowing that he probably wasted like 5 gallons of gas driving it like that
but yeah, i turbo'd my car thinking that 250 would be enough. I can already see that it isnt. I'm wanting to break into the 12's. I think that means built motor/built tranny/built diff. I see myself dropping another 5-7k into this car in the next year. Possibly more.
man, i can just imagine how nuts a 400whp miata is
I went 11.30@120 on a stock BP with stock tranny and 1.8 diff. Power was 350hp.
Also went 12.4 with 275hp!
went 11.00 with 498hp on built everything. Car was spinning tires in 3rd and break trannies! But mph was in the 135+ range
This was all done in my old 1990 Miata!

Hmm, i will probably be looking for a clutch diff in the near future. Then WI. You say swap out trannys, swap out with what? I know the t2 swap is not exactly a walk in the park.
Ok 18psi - so what did it cost for that kind of power? Nothing to be ashamed of- everybody here knows that it's gonna cost to make that kind of power from a turbo four banger (and have it live). But I think it would put it in perspective - going from stock power to that level.
And Marc- those quarter times- on slicks? I know that skill plays a much larger role in quarter times than most realize. So what do you think the difference is between your times and an average driver?

Marc, what was the 60 time?
Also, what clutch was this on and did you have some form of launch control? How bad did you have to slip the clutch and in how many gears, lol

STI trans are (were) pretty pricey and you had to swap the rear to the R180 from the STI too. To do that you needed the whole rear/axles/driveshaft. You can see where this is going. $$$ Probably about $4500 if I did it myself. Or I could have gone with a PPG gearset which was around $4500 plus installation.
I'd much rather **** away money ( a lot more) on my Miata conversion.
While I loved my FXT and it drove very civilized for a daily driver, the EWG was annoying though I could have plumbed it back in and it simply wasn't fun like the Miata is. Plus the only time I'd drive it over the Miata is during the winter or crappy weather where I couldn't use half the power I had.
If anyone wants a nice car, hang around me for a year and I'll build something sweet then sell it before I abuse it or break it!
