agreed 18psi! If using Cobb's maps, there are minimal gains to be had, a protune is really necessary to maximize potential.

Quite a few of the STI's around here could hand me my *** in a drag race, no question there at all. Being friends with the owner of a subaru specific shop has given me a good perspective on the potential of those cars!

He normally ran 19 lbs. but had turned the boost down. Supposedly he dynoed at Enginelogics (same place that built and tuned my MR2) like 280-290 whp. Of course a STI is going to kill a miata in the 1/4. It's going take a pretty powerful miata to keep up with the times from a decently modded STI. But from a roll... don't really need as much power to hang/pull one. Personally I don't like comparing my miata with other cars 1/4. Especially a AWD car. When I go cruising around, I never get to run anyone from a dig so it doesn't matter. There are cars I can take from 40-140 that can beat me in the 1/4. Bad tires and especially since the miata isn't the best 1/4 mile car.

I really don't like the 1/4 mile. I don't really go to the drag strip often ( a little over a hour away and gas is a killer) that and I haven't had as much block time to go to the Baytown strip. I know WRX's are fast as hell. Especially if you know how to launch them good. My friend has a... Idk 06? Wrx and it just has a catback exhaust, intake, and FMIC. He knew how to launch that thing incredibly. He ran my friends evo with a turboback, intake, and tune and the rex took him off the line and was about half a car till 3rd, then the evo pulled pretty hard.

Those AWD cars launch flipping hard. Redic 1/4 times for the weight and power they put out. I have raced multiple STI's but never from a dig. I have stomped them every time. The most modified STI I have raced those is from what I understand a stage 2 ??? If I ran them from a dig they would have raped me without a doubt. And no dude, a bone stock STI would get raped by a 250 whp miata and pulled by a 220 whp without question. At least from all STI's I have raced. People underestimate just how fast 230 whp is @ 2300 lbs. Take into consideration I'm am not talking about a 1/4 mile here, but a real race on the streets.

I agree a WRX will rape a miata in the 1/4 unless the miata is really putting down some power.

my 05 wrx with turboback and tune at 18psi did 13.1@102 on 91 octane, what does a 220whp miata trap on average to be able to spank that?(the 07 is in the 11's)...keep in mind this is a wrx with a td04, a stg2 sti is EASILY capable of 12.8@103-5 which my friend, a mediocre driver did on his 05. see guys, i dont want to start a rivalry here, but c'mon lets be reasonable: go on nasioc and pull up the thread with stock turbo wrx's and sti and look at the numbers they are running at the track: stock turbo with boltons and a 100oct tune the record right now is 11.7@114 for a stock turbo sti. stock turbo and boltons on a wrx and they're in the mid-high 12's area. with bigger turbo's its game over. c'mon lets be reasonable here. imo, a BONE STOCK sti is a good race for a turboed miata (given its a average 220-250whp) from a roll, anything can happen on the street, but majority of the time its that way.

just cause you "took a sti" one or two times doesnt mean that its that way always. we've got stage 2 sti's in the bay area running low 12's back to back at 112mph on **** 91 oct. anyways, this is just my input, i am going from the subaru world to the miata world and am happy to do so, but i just cant ingnore one fact: subaru's will always dominate miata's in a straight line majority of the time. some miata's are crazy beasts, but not alot. most are made for the twisties,. Im not arguing the fact that miata's are funner, better handling, etc etc etc..stricktly my opinion/input tho so dont get offended plz

I think anyone here would be crazy to challenge a WRX/STi/EVO/etc to a race from a dig, too much advantage to the AWD car.

On a tune I figured to be making 220whp, and missing 5th gear bad at the end of the strip, I trapped 98mph. I figure my car will trap 101-103+ with 4 good shifts and a good tune. You can't compare an AWD launch to a Miata's launch anyway; the trap speeds are what matters.

I've rode shotgun in crashnscar's GT3076R STI, 6000rpm launch from a dig. It's violent.

No offense to the anti 1/4 mile guys, but stock STIs are trapping 104-105. I don't think many here are. I'd imagine most are in the 100mph range. That means you're losing from the dig or roll, all things being equal.

Just saying.

completely, absolutely, 100% agreed with you....here in cali stockers trap anywhere from 100-102 (shitty gas), stage 2 flashed ones trap 100-106, and protuned stage 2's trap 105-112....trap speed is a good indication of how the car will behave in a roll race(pretty much for all cars), while quarter mile time is good at showing launch and driving skill(in a subaru)....

I trapped 108... well 107.8mph to be technical about it. This was at 260whp, with a 3 something 60ft and lots of wheelspin.

Which still doesn't affect trap speed much. Will certainly kill your ET though.

haha, yeah man my first time at the track with the 20g i sucked so bad it was sad
the shift of power to the right (higher rpm) and it being like an on/off switch (lag lag lag WHOAAA) made me bog that sob the first 2 times so bad it almost stalled.....i think i still got a 2.5 '60

umm... on a stock 1.6 with greddy mani and turbo and a crappy wastegate actuator and tune, making 12psi at 4200 and losing 3 - 4 psi between 5000 and 7000, i trapped 104.5 a few weeks ago...

that said, i don't know how many mph i'll actually be picking up by holding that to redline and adding a couple pounds. and either way, 6k clutch drop in an sti >>>>>>>>> crappy launch and blazing tire in my miata...
