Does this correlate with a year? I didn't start having this problem until I swapped a VVT head on. The wires didn't seem to "grip" the plugs as well when they were out of the car. Could it just be the connectors are a touch loose?

Sounds like you didn't tighten your plugs enough. Knowing you, it was because you were scared of them. IIRC NGK's have a little diagram on each little box illustrating how to properly tighten them.

My NGK wires work flawlessly, although they require a decent amount of force to click on to the plugs. I have never experienced what you are describing.
Probably didn't whack a mole enough. Swapped to NGK 7's today so I'll do that in the morning.

I am not certain about VVT heads. RTC you just need to tighten your plugs properly. If the top of the plug wire is ballooning right after you changed the plugs, sounds like pressure is escaping around the plugs.

I have seen this kind of thing before, let me guess ignition problems in high boost?
