Now that I've got the SuperMiata GTC-200 wing and to counter act the non-effort mounting of the wing - I will spend the rest of the year working on a DIY splitter.

I am trying to make the splitter painless to mount and unmount to the car. I will use 12mm layered hardwood or layered poplar.

Was thinking of using a U-shape alu profile and two alu strips to slide the splitter in and out of.

Find that picture of Sav's car with the nose off, his splitter mount seemed really easy and straight forward. Couple bolts and the thing dropped off.

Yup, and at the end of those square stock pieces is a line of square stock bolted to the splitter.

Came up with these dimensions for the front splitter/undertray. All are in centimeters, so divide by 2.5408 to get inches.

The front will be just fore of the foremost part of the bumper.
The rear portion will mount to the aft control arm stubs on the subframe.
This give a total depth of 120cm (47.2")

Width will be 166cm (65.3") to get all the tire 'inside' when I add spats.
Inner width is 62.5cm (25.6")

Man, that splitter is gonna be heavy with that ply - why not do something out of alumilite or something else rigid yet light? I bet you wouldn't have to use turnbuckles with that up front? I used the alumilite and I think it's been working great (not that you have to - just looking at it from a weight POV). Several others here use it too. I pull 6 pins and it drops right out...

I think wood is good, and that is what Sav uses. I need Savington to comment on wood type and thickness vs acceptable weight?

If you're going wood, Birchwood laminate is what I hear is best - strong and lightest. It just looked like yours was 3/4" thick but 12mm is shy of 1/2". Cost comes to play too - wood is cheaper than the other stuff.

Birch is about 700kg/m3 while poplar is only 370kg/m3...
That means a poplar splitter would be just about 8-9kgs (17-20 lbs)

Is that what's seen in the field as well?

Finally mounted the 1" Wilwood MC with 01+ Sports Booster. Also mounted the Wilwood prop valve with it.

Feels very good on the street (FWIW) and will know more next Tuesday on the track.

Also new CAI construction with NACA duct headlight cover I've had for ages now.
