Default SuperTrapp exhaust

Does anyone have any experience with the SuperTrapp exhaust on a Miata?

A friend of mine has Supertrapp mufflers on his '78 Jeep CJ5. It's dumb. He'd be better off throwing them away and running glasspacks.

I think the adjustable back pressure design of the Supertrapp is better off on a motorcycle, cause otherwise it looks like a technologically advanced fart can.

Just run straight 3" from the turbo back, it's cheaper and you will make the most power.

They have a use guys.

NA cars and a desire to tune for power ranges. It also makes for easy bolt on/off dialing in of sound issues for tracks with sound limits.

For turbo... useless in my book.

Supertrapps are for engines that have been designed imprperly, in that they made the exhaust ports, header primaries, and exhaust too big, so that they need backpressure.
I dont understand why its happening but motorcycle makes tend to make their heads flow too much to the point that they loose velocity.
I think the engineers have started to rely on modeling and flow benches too much.

I like the SuperTrapp's ability to easily tune for sound and power ranges, but I also think that they look good. Besides bikes, you mostly see them installed on the classic American hotrods. They don't look cheap (or "unfinished") like most of the other exhausts and straight pipes & tips do on a Miata. For a small car like a Miata it's hard to find an exhaust that looks good/sporty. I've seen the double Ansa exhaust tips on Miatas--those look kind of lame, too.

Crap. Using Supertrapps to cut down on sound is a great way to throw away 20% of the power output of an NA car. If you want quiet, hang a big muffler on it.
