I've been a little of topic.

Re-reading your original post...I say definitely swap in a 1.8L. I'm as much of a 1.6L elitist here as anyone, but like most "clicks", we are only that way out of envy for people that are individuals, or smarter than us.

If I had dropped the extra coin to put in a 1.8L from the get go I'd be much better off. I've told myself I can't go back now because my manifold is for a 1.6L, but I managed to buy another manifold last week...for a 1.6L. It's supposed to be an upgrade (turbo), but had I been smart I would have invested in 1.8L hardware, and started building a motor for what would eventually be a real upgrade.
