Fortunately for this forum, nobody is afraid to blast somebody for what they think is wrong. Whether are or not, it ultimately leads to the right answer(s).
If you're in the area, I'd be more than happy to help you out with the swap!

OK a few more questions. I modified the clutch fork successfully, but I left the camera up at the garage, so pics will have to wait until I get back up there.

These questions are all related to wiring up the tranny. Can I reuse the miata speedo cable, or do I need an rx7 one? Does anyone know what connectors are on the rx7 tranny (reverse light, etc.)? Are they the same as the miata, or are they switched around? I've been poking around on the rx7 forum looking for information, but thought I would post here as I have had great results in the past.

I just found the service manual for it, so I will give that a whirl. For anyone else interested I found it here...

Well I'm stumped again. I took apart the rx7 speedo connector and put in the miata cable, so that is all set. I was able to swap over the miata reverse light switch, no problem there. My question is with the reverse light switch. Now the miata has only a reverse light switch, with 2 wires coming off it. I can't swap it to the tII tranny as the switches are different. The TII switch however is called out in the wiring diagram as a 5th gear/ reverse light switch, with 4 wires coming off it. 2 have the connections for the miata reverse light harness, but the other 2 wires, i don't know. I've never even heard of a 5th gear switch. Would I be able to just use the reverse light wires and leave the others open? Here's a picture of the TII switch:

I was able to swap over the miata reverse light switch, no problem there. My question is with the reverse light switch.
did you mean swap over the miata neutral...?

Reference the wiring diagram, hook up some voltage and meter and move the shifter around to see what happens in comparison to what the Miata trans does...?

Yeah, I had the wrong wires hooked up to the miata harness. With that said, I haven't run the car yet, so I'm not sure if they work. in theory, everything should be all set.
