Default Is trigger wheel required on 97 Miata?

I am finishing my forged rebuild on my 97 miata. When hooking everything back up, I found that the crankshaft position sensor will not bolt up to the boundary engineering oil pump that I put on the car. After doing some research, I'm reading that the crankshaft position sensor isn't required on the 97s bc it uses the CAS to know the crank position.

Is this correct? Or do I need to find some way to rig the sensor to the new oil pump?

On a 97, the stock ecu uses the crank position sensor on the front of the engine for misfire detection as part of the obd2 stuff. If you are running a standalone, and just using the cas, it is not needed. The exception would be if you chose to run an Nb setup with an NB valve cover and pulley and front crank sensor, say if you wanted to run a 36-2 trigger wheel and you want to do sequential stuff.
