Those 2 links actually look like they might work. I'd need to find someone who has one to see if it would fit.

And I agree about the "video game" feel to it. It's gonna be bolted in 4 places to keep it stationary, but nothing short of a full race seat w/5pt belts and a Hans device is gonna keep me safe in the event of any real accident.

and the aluminum is malleable so you can bash it in as you see fit.

 

i work at the dragway on the weekend and you would not believe how many people run ABS seats. i have not seen anyone get hurt from having one so i am gonna say its safe

 

yeah i was going to say, if i had the choice I'd stick with the ABS one....

 

Flipside is rarely on here. I would call them. They have the solution. The Sprint in my buddies car is damn near against that rear wall. He runs a hardtop now. No more softop. I have to reach so far for the pedals that my legs are almost straight out. I am 6'1.

The plastic is really thick. I went through half-a-dozen Dremel carbide cutting wheels (the big expensive ones) making all the cuts. I've cut easier through aluminum before.

I've got the NE Dyno Day on my calendar... but 4hrs to get there... ****!

 

I can confirm that ultrashield spec miata seat has absolutely no shoulder support. It should be able to do what you want.



That or you can do what the formula guys do and pour your own seat out of foam.

 

That's a fun process. You'll definitely learn a bunch and get a seat that fits you damn good.

 

The fun never ends.
After finishing the seat, I decided to re-lower the steering column. My father owned the car previous to me and did the mod. It's just a couple of washers added to the steering column bolts under the dash. It looks like when he did the mod, he put the bolts back in with a 4ft cheater bar... cause I snapped one off removing it and the washers were all crushed practically in half. The passenger side bolt is holding the column up, but it's just as rigid, so I think it'll be fine. In any case, I hesitate to think what a huge *** pain it will be to fix the bolt. I'm pretty sure the steering column bracket that this bolt is stuck in is an integral part of the dash... anybody know what I'm talking about?

So for now the seat is finished. I ended up removing the entire back of the thing and now it sits back far enough. It's bolted to the floor using a piece of steel stock. And I've got a piece of rope attached to the rollbar pulling the top of the seat back... permanent solution for the seatback still being engineered.

I really need to lower the steering column, but I'm scared to remove that other bolt.

One word....IMPACT! I'll get that bolt off with out breaking it. Bring it to me!!!

The head of the bolt actually snapped off and left about 15 threads worth of rod still in the assembly. It's gonna suck to fix it, I can already tell.

 

Finally I can upload pics again... here is the finished seat. Coincidentally, yesterday evening, the damn drivers seatbelt buckle broke. I'm gonna swap the passenger's over for now, but that means no passenger. I already have one on the way through a part-out via m.net classifieds.
