Money is tight in Arkansas. I may be wronge, But I bet they would drop it in.
I'm calling a few shops Monday.

If you can find a $650 LS T56 that shifts well I'll take 10 of them. T56s go $1300+ all day long on craigslist and LS1tech and I've been looking for a year now. That's usually not including bellhousing/hydraulics/clutch.

One of the reasons 5.0s are losing a bit of popularity is you can't put them in anything newer than a '94 (wasn't that the last 5.0 in a car?) and legally register them in many states. Plus most states will allow an OBDII LSX swap into a Miata of the same year or older and have it pass emissions.

Someone mentioned turbocharging the LS...

Now that is the sex.. Although that's more than what I was talking about for a Miata project. Very interested to see the finished product. And I really don't think a med. sized turbo truck motor would be uncontrollable. If it was kept under or around 500whp and you had some good tires it would be unstoppable. Beyond there and it would be tough to harness the power available and it would turn into a straight line toy.

Agree. The only thing I'd change is the location of the turbo, for packaging and weight distribution. Under the passenger seat in a fabbed enclosure would not be impossible.

They come up periodically around here. The older F-bodys are crashing out.
Youcan buy a whole wrecked car for $1300. We almost bought one two weeks ago for $1200, for my cousins S10 swap.

This is Texas, every redneck has a mustang or camaro here.

I'll try to send you some postings when they pop up.

95 was the the last year, but I doubt that has much to do with it's popularity. For a long time the 5.0 option was it for a V8 miata. In the last couple years the LS option appeared. The LS engine can be had in aluminium fairly cheap, about the same price as a 5.0 block. To get the 5.0 in aluminium you have to go aftermarket and spend some money.

This is true, Around my way (NC) you can find an LS engine and trans for around $1500 if you are patient.

Just took a look at the Boss Frog swap kit.. and there just a touch proud of there products. Not that I blame them necessarily.. Are you guys (who are actually committed) going to use their kit or just fab up your own?

Michael

im going for BF kit and get axles/driveshaft made locally. comes down to like $3k for entire swap kit with "stage 2" axles.

If that would have been the case here, I'd have done it. Dropouts with T56 go for $3500. Rarely more, rarely less. You can get auto dropouts for about $2500, but I wanted a stick, period.

I want to see some of these 6 speed dropouts (that don't have 150K miles) for under $2K. They never show up on car-part.com or craigslist, as I'm looking all the time. The internet has taken away man of the "deals" out in BFE.

Many states have laws and '95 MY was 15 years ago. Again, an L33 isn't a legal swap in most states and still $800. And in order to get by, you need to at least throw on an LS1 intake and the various LS1 accessories and get an F-body oil pan. Swappers don't want the truck oil pans. An F-body oil pan alone used with the right pickup and windage tray is $200.

We're using the T5 in the track car being built for ST-2 in NASA....unless you are going nuts, they are fine for a 400hp 2500lb car. I didn't break one in my Cobra until 450hp with very sticky tires and lots of abuse. The american iron cars run them all the time in 3000lb cars. You also save a reasonable amount of weight and you don't have to hack on the chassis.

I have TKO600, wonder if I can swap the input shaft to GM size/spline and make it work formy swap...nah, probably just sell it and buy one.
