You're lucky i'm around otherwise you'd be getting your ******* torn right about now. You still might. :P

The answer is yes: Almost every modern ECU these days has an "autotuning" function.

The stock ecu in our cars is good for nothing more than to chuck it in the trash.

After that you have 2 straightforward options: Megasquirt and Hydra.

There are others, but they're not as straightforward.

The stock ECU in the later model Miatas has a long-term fuel trim, which biases the entire fuel table up or down based on the past history of the short-term corrections required to achieve stochimetric operation while in closed-loop mode.

That is all.

Reverant is a mythical creature similar to a liger, who jizzes on your car and it gets faster.

If needing to be emissions compliant and not want to swap systems-

1) Intake/exhaust/raised boost to 10psi
2) BEGI ECU reflash. This is how the car should have come from the factory. Not OMFG perfect, but a thousand times better than stock
3) ditch the shitty 4.1 rear gear for a 3.9
4) suspension

If not worried about emissions, replace BEGI reflash with standalone. The stock turbo is good for ~210-220rwhp IIRC. The 4.1 diff. is such a PITA. I have my stock 3.9 and everytime I jump from my car to the MSM, it's such a noticeable difference. The stock suspension is pretty bouncy and too soft, IMHO. I'd focus on uncorking the tuning and the short gears, followed by suspension and then power.

He's in Louistucky, no emissions.

The BEGI reflash is scary and all the money. There's a big hubbub about it over on mazda-speed right now about how it blew up a customer car and the responses from BeGi concerning it are less than professional, as well as some pretty curious stuff coming from their mouths. (High 12s AFRs under full boost is fine! Just kidding, it's less than ideal! Errrr i mean Corky told me to say it's fine! But it's not ideal! Either way, there's NO WAY it blew up your motor lol!)

I especially enjoyed the comment from them that said, "Are you sure you didn't accidently put diesel in it or that the 93 pump did not dispense diesel into your car? This kind of stuff happens all the time." That was epic.

"We definitely tuned the car to run dangerously, but it's CLEARLY the customer's fault that it blew up."

Is that the guy who posted on M.net with pictures showing clear oil starvation and then blamed Begi?

I dunno. I've posted on Miata.net twice.

It's HellionMX5 or whatever.

I think it is the same guy. There were definitely indications that he was at least partially, if not entirely, to blame. However, what was pissing everyone off was that his tune was also clearly dangerous and BEGI was just acting like it was all good to tune for 12.5 AFRs. Yes the guy was an idiot because he noticed knock and still drove the car but he did call BEGI and pretty much was told everything was fine with the tune.

Not to mention making some very ignorant comments like the one I listed above. I don't know what gas stations do where they are but I have never heard of someone getting diesel from a 93 unleaded pump. It was all just shady bullshit.

lol yeah I'm reading his Reflash Review thread right now, and it's full of lulz.

Begi certainly did not handle it properly, but the guy came to them with "Hey you blew up my motor but conveniently all evidence of any wrongdoing on your part was not shown or too late to gather, so you'll just have to take my word for it!"

AHAHAHAHA I just got to the part where he admits he had an exhaust leak. Gee I wonder why he was reading lean?

a gas car wouldnt run with diesel in it lol. that is hilarious...the owner of the car should have gotten a few other opinions on that and did his research before hand on what AFR's should look like. 12.5 is terrible for boost.
