From all the posts I've read the most recommended is the Optima red top. They are suposedly difficult to find due to being a military supplier. The 2nd best is the westco battery. Matches the footpring and design of the stock one. Lowest recommended was the Autozone Duralast battery. This is just from posts on the .net. I haven't replaced my battery (still the panasonic) so I am no help other than what I have read.

I have the red top optima too. It does require modifing the mounting brackets but it is not a big deal.

Yes - You also need to modify the bottom of the battery also. A little triming and it slips right into the existing area. Gutt-N-Tight

The Autozone I bought has the exact same plastic casing as the Westco, relabled for Autozone. Cheap, guaranteed for 5 years, and I can't find the receipt.

I never had much luck with the westcos- certainly not the quality of the OE panasonics I've had. Right now I've got the "pep boys" engergizer in there and it's been great. It was actually "rated" at more cca than the yellow top optima for about half the price. It is taller than OE, but that's just extending the threaded rod.

I don't want to add any weight with the optima though. I might try the autozone battery with the 5-year warranty.

autozone sells a good one that fits right in the stock location. i bought mine for ~$80 and it has worked flawlessly for over 3 years now.

mother EFFERS.

$80 for a dinkshit battery. Costco doesn't have anything this small. Westco still wants $100.

I'm looking for something $50. I don't even need a 5 year warranty. This car ain't gonna be around in a year anywho.

what's the latest/greatest/CHEAPEST new battery? anyone?

I have the autozone duralast 8am1ur or whatever p/n it is. long warranty means it lasts that long plus a little. it was 80 bucks. it works fine. i did kill the new one DEAD once and they just swapped it out after testing to verify it was gone.

mother effers.

That's what I use. Worth the time to not have to buy a new battery when i accidentally leave the door cracked.

i use an optima yellow top because my car can sit for long periods of time out on the street. Also sits in the garage over the winter but that's with a battery tender. Is an optima really much heavier than another battery of the same size?
