I'm glad this happened to someone else at last. Welcome to the brotherhood of thread necromancers.

Also I think I might wire this idea up with an Arduino and some spare mosfets. My current solution for Spal fan draw was to wire up a pneumatic solenoid with a check valve so that when the fans switch on, the solenoid lets extra air into the intake to raise the idle. I think ramping up the fans is a better idea.

Or you could just spend a bit of cash and have the Derale PWM Fan controller that works amazingly on my fan that pulls 40a on startup then 22a continuous on high. The derale unit has a soft start so I never see the 40a and it has a ramp up to spin faster as it is needed so I dont even see the 22a unless the car is getting toasty.

I might give that a shot when I'm done with my current ducting mods. My current setup is basically two big fans attached to an aluminum shroud behind the radiator, but the whole area in front of the rad is completely not ducted. So basically the coolant gets up to the fan temperature no matter what and then stays there. I'm hoping with ducting the coolant will stay at the thermostat temp unless I'm stuck in traffic.
