Yes, there will be a dummy plug in place of the VVTuner. The dummy plug needs to be there or the engine won't run as the VVTuner intercepts the crank/cam sensors. When you are ready to install the VVTuner, just remove the dummy plug and plug the VVTuner in.

Just curious on what the group buy was for the ms2v3 for 90-93 Miata.

Reverant 03-13-2012 03:39 PM

Pricewise? $625.

Linh 03-14-2012 02:13 AM

Not a bad deal compared to $799 I'm paying for from another vendor.

Cut harness in 1/2 the add 3tf of wire, realize every color wire is used more then once.....

Good thing Dimitris had a diagram for me.

Reverant 03-15-2012 11:32 AM

Yeah, I realize it is a problem, however two-color thinwall cables are 3x more expensive and custom ordered. So for the ~50 wires in that harness, I do have to reuse the same colors for many functions.

Wow, I feel sorry for you when you have to make one. I would hate having to use mostly the same color wires for everything.

Reverant 03-15-2012 06:50 PM

I use about 10 different colors. So its not that much of a problem for me, otherwise I would pay the 3x price and be done with it.

FYI I would have dropped another $50 to have my harness already be about 4ft.

Reverant 03-16-2012 05:34 PM

I hear you, which is why I now make them much longer. Why 4ft? Glove box?

Flyin96M 03-19-2012 12:58 AM

So I've started working on installing mine and I currently have two questions. First since my car is a 96 I'll need to run the wires to control the VICS but where do I connect them at the ECU? Second do I have to have a functioning clutch switch since I bypassed mine a long time ago?

Reverant 03-19-2012 04:16 AM

1) Since your car doesn't have VICS from the factory, you will have to solder a wire to the top connector on the ECU. Just solder a wire in pin #10 (they are labelled if you look very closely), connect that wire to one pin of the VICS solenoid, then connect the other wire of the solenoid to a switched 12V power supply.
2) Do you actually have two clutch switches there? If you do, no problem at all.

paNX2K&SE-R 03-19-2012 08:34 PM

I'm going to be installing mine soon, Rev can you please send me the instructions to sr20ve at gmai l . c om thanks.

Has anyone installed theirs in a US spec NB mounted in place of the factory ecu yet? How difficult was the access? I'd rather not extend all the wires like Jeff did if its not 100% necessary.

MoonieGT 03-19-2012 08:53 PM

I'm trying to figure this out too. I didn't know it was even an issue until I started trying to install everything this past weekend. Rev suggested making a bracket that will integrate with the bracket holding the OEM unit in place. I'm not sure if I can get that done on my own. Extending the wires sounds like a bit of a chore too...

Email sent.

Can someone provide measurements of the stock brackets and mounting hole positions on the stock ECU? I'll see if I can fabricate something.

MoonieGT 03-20-2012 02:22 PM

I'll try to get you details on the OEM bracket, but it might not be for a couple of days.

On a related note, I'd like to stop by and pick up a MAP hose on my way home from work. Does anyone know what the I.D. for the hose is? Also, I'm assuming I'll need at least 5-6 feet of hose to make it into the car and under the steering wheel (for a '99)? Anyone know how much I'll actually need? Does the hose material matter? Any vacuum hose will do?

Thanks

3mm ID. Silicone is best, as it very easy to route.

MoonieGT 03-20-2012 03:14 PM

Thanks.

As for mounting, maybe some thin sheet metal with 4 holes for the MS, and two tabbed holes to join up with the OEM bracket? That might not be too hard... Surely I'm not the first trying to put an MS in a 99 right?

Flyin96M 03-20-2012 03:25 PM

Can't remember what size I bought but I needed 10' to go from a port just behind the TB to behind the passenger seat. I just took my MS to the store with me to make sure I got the right dia.

I've seen threads about setting up tuner studio that mention selecting firmware etc. Do those threads apply to your ECR Rev? In otherwords, are there any other steps, besides the ones you outlined in your instructions, to get TunerStudio up an running for someone who has just downloaded the software and has not touched any other settings?

No, just follow the instructions I sent you. Your unit already has a basemap loaded.

RavynX 03-22-2012 02:20 PM

I sent you a PM earlier, Dimitris.

For the rest of you who have installed it in a NB, how is fitment under the dash? Should I request an extension for the harness to fit behind the glovebox or is there room under the driver's side dash?

MoonieGT 03-22-2012 02:22 PM

I'll find out on Saturday... and let you know. I *think* that it will be possible to mount it in the vicinity of the OEM ECU, but have yet to try it. It will require some sort of custom mounting system for sure. I need to confirm that there is enough room as the MS box is maybe twice as thick as the oem unit?

Replied.

On my 2002, there is a Mazda (OEM) keyless control module behind the glovebox. YMMV.

Thanks! I have a 2000 w/o the module. Currently my Hydra 2.5 ems resides behind the glovebox. If it'll fit under the driver's side dash that'd be cool.

Yep, someone posted that last photo on the FB page. Is Dimitris' the same size?

MoonieGT 03-22-2012 02:47 PM

From memory, I think it's at least in the same ballpark if not the same size. I think it should fit based on that picture. And, zip ties = much easier than fabbing an integrating bracket :)

Would not take much longer than cutting them all at once.

It fits, you will need to fab some brackets. The left pic is how it's facing ready to be plugged in.There is a 10mm stud way up in there at the top. The bracket on the right pic goes onto the 10mm stud coming out from the firewall. Don't plug anything in until all the fabbing/testfitting is done.

Tracking # PMed.

MoonieGT 03-26-2012 10:32 AM

I tried installing this weekend: car would not start. The ECU was communicating with the laptop, but it just cranked with no hint of trying to fire up. Trouble shooting to follow. Jumping the fuel pump is the next step, but it will probably be a while before I have time to attack this project again.

Regarding mounting in a '99: you MIGHT MAYBE be able to mount in the stock location, but it will TIGHT. The problem is that the harness uses those two big connectors that are themselves very tall, add to that the stiff cable that sticks out from those and it's just so cramped with the pedals and other wires that are already populating the area. I think I'm going to have cut Rev's harness and extend it as well ala JeffMan. I just don't see how it's possible to install without doing that.

Reverant 03-26-2012 10:45 AM

These connectors have provisions for side exiting of the wires, if that helps.

I've very interested in any solution that doesn't require hacking up the PnP adapter harness. The one I build is ~20" long, which is long enough to wrap around the MS.

MoonieGT 03-26-2012 11:03 AM

I'll have to play with harness and see what I can do. It's just so tight in there because of the pedals. The OEM unit is inbetween the brake and clutch pedals. Your ECU is 2 - 2.5 times thicker than the OEM, space is limited out of the box. Maybe I can work on the side exit and see if the wires can come over the top of the unit. If I can do that it might work. As for the box, I think you can probably zip tie it to the stock brackets.

hustler 03-26-2012 01:20 PM

Were you making fuel pressure or not?

MoonieGT 03-26-2012 01:31 PM

As far as we could tell the fuel lines had pressure in them. But I'm not sure if we had spark or not. I pulled a plug and tried to see if it sparked during cranking, but didn't see one...

How big is the MS2? There's a fair amount of room left of the clutch, maybe it will fit there.

158x105x63mm for the enclosure. Add about 80mm more to the length for the protruding connectors and wiring loop-around.

It's tight, but my MFSII(tm) fit in two different spots.

Right of the steering column, harness points towards heater vent
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T...327_202022.jpg

Left of the clutch pedal, harness towards firewall
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e...327_202622.jpg

Once zip tied in place it would not rub against the pedal as shown in the picture.

Overall length was ~260mm

If you relocate the relays there would be tons of room
