To be fair, the Sep 11 release date is kind of odd, although I am saying this as an American and a New Yorker, and I recognize that this date, while well-known is no more sacrosanct in Australia than 26 January or 25 April here in the US.
(Pop quiz: what were the dates of the 2005 London Subway bombings? Or of the 2001 Zug massacre in Switzerland? Or the 1995 Cuers rampage in France? Or the 1969 Piazza Fontana bombing? Or the 2011 Regjeringskvartalet and Utøya attacks?)
And no, the original 1 & 2 WTC looked nothing at all like that poster. Not only were they square, but their exoskeletal construction gave them a very distinct surface appearance, easily distinguished from the bland all-glass facade shown above.
Nor was 11 Sep 2001 the first time an airplane hit a skyscraper in New York. That actually happened on July 28, 1945, when a B-25 crashed into the Empire State Building. And yet we still show the film King Kong, with airplanes buzzing around that building shooting at the big ape.
(Airplanes also crashed into buildings in NYC on May 20, 1946 (40 Wall Street), December 16, 1960 (mid-air collision where the wreckage landed on the city), and October 11, 2006 (the Belaire building).)
Honestly, I find the various conspiracy theories about 9/11 to be offensive. I am not offended by a movie poster in Australia. And I say this as someone who was working on the 110th floor of 1 WTC (installing an antenna for WKCR) on Sep 10, 2001, and would have been back up there the following morning had I not gotten called back to Cincinnati that evening.

would you honestly have been up there at the top that early? That's nuts.
My brother in law worked in one of the towers and was on his way into work, late. If he was at work on time he would have been in there, but he was on the subway instead. It f'ed with him pretty good.

I would think that on the first day of marketing school they tell you not to put anything concerning Hitler, 9/11, and child **** on an ad. Yes, 9/11 is an American event but it is well known around the world.
I was going to post an old ad for a Japanese VCR that had the date set to December 7th but I was unable to find it. I would find it hard to believe that an American firm would advertise Nuclear Hot Wings on Blowout Sale @ KFC on whatever the hell day we dropped the Hiroshima bomb. Of course, I have no idea what that date is (guarantee they know what the date is on Japan) because I am a self centered American. Anyway, marketing firms get paid millions of dollars to no make mistakes like that (as well as being paid millions of dollars to create controversial ads).
Again, I have no problem with the ad except resenting being played in that way.

At that time, all of the TV stations and 4 of the FM stations had their primary transmitters on the big antenna 1 WTC. It was simply the best platform available.
We were building a new studio for WKCR radio, in a new location at Broadway & 114th. Since we had direct line-of-sight to WTC from the roof, we were installing a wireless (2.6 Ghz spread-spectrum) T1 link between the buildings rather than leasing a land-line to carry the program audio to the transmitter.
The antenna and transceiver were physically installed at both ends, and we were scheduled to finish aligning the dishes and configuring the software on them that morning. But there was some stupid emergency back at the factory in Cinci, so I flew home the evening of the 10th and told Wayne I'd be back in a couple of days and that he should finish some work we had to do back at the studio uptown.
I'll never forget the next morning, watching it happen on TV at the office, and thinking "****, I really hope Wayne didn't decide to try aiming the dish solo." Took about 5 hours before I could get a call through to him, and I'll never forget that conversation.
Wayne: "Hello?"
Me: "Wayne? Jesus, man. Where are you? Where's Hal? Is everyone ok?"
Wayne: (obviously confused) "Huh? Yeah, Hal's over in the production room, want me to go get him?"
Me: "So everyone is safe?"
Wayne: "Yeah, why?"
Me: "Wayne, I want you to go downstairs, walk out the front door, turn left, and tell me what you see."
Wayne: "What the hell are you talking about?"
Me: "Wayne, shut the **** up and go outside."
(footsteps, door opening, door closing.)
(silence.)
Wayne: "Holy ****."
Bearing in mind that these guys were working inside a windowless cluster of soundproof rooms on the second floor of a building just a few miles away, they literally had no idea what was happening downtown that morning. Missed the whole thing completely.Me: "Wayne? Jesus, man. Where are you? Where's Hal? Is everyone ok?"

I don't have any pictures of the old transmitter room at WTC, but here's their new home at 4 Times:
(they ran temporarily out of ESB for a couple years after WTC, but never had a good signal from there.)
