Makes me think back to the launching of the DCL Dream and Fantasy. They were about as undramatic as possible; the drydock was slowly flooded over a period of several hours, and then the ships emerged stoicly from the barn with tug escort.

I have witnessed only one ship being launched. It was a WWII Victory ship when I was on the shoulders of my Father when I was 2 years old. The only thing I remember was sitting on his shoulders and the bunches of bananas they used to grease the skids. Circa 1944.

No matter how many such photos I see, and despite having worked in a factory which produced "big" things, and despite having also worked at a shipyard in Germany which transformed raw steel into some of the largest cruise ships afloat, I still find myself unable to comprehend machinework at such a scale.
