One man show.
Thrice was the first band i saw live without my parents.

Saw Gaslight Anthem, Thrice, and Rise Against. I was front row, standing room only at the Fillmore. Which recently went through a renovation. It's beautiful.

So I was pretty hungry working on the car, and took a dinner break...

They have four of these stations side by side.
De-******-licious.

And, it's only $4, with endless salad, fries and fresh wafer thin flat bread.
Because our money took a nose dive against the $ over the past few weeks and also because our economy is crashing in a spectacular way.

Yeah, I understand that Turkey is giving post-WWII Germany a run for its money (pun unintended, but appreciated) on the matter of inflation and currency devaluation.

On this plus side, this means that all of the retaliatory tariffs that your government is imposing on its steel exports don't really matter here in the US.

On the minus side, I sympathize with the fact that you're building a new engine right now, and having to import most of the goodies.

Historical photo of JasonC's great-grandfather going to the store to buy a loaf of bread, during the gold-standard era:

Serious question:

It's always been my understanding that they are supposed to carve the doner in a spiral fashion, such that it remains roughly cylindrical and merely decreases in diameter as it goes, such that the meat being removed at any given time is always that which has the most char on it. Is this not, in fact, the actual custom in the homeland of this delicacy?

It happened after both wars, but the "wheelbarrow of money for a loaf of bread" pics all happened in 1918 and 1919. Collapse of the Weimar Republic at the close of the war triggered it.

Germany's economy was trashed by the end of WWII, but it was fairly quickly rectified by the allies providing food and materials to the conquered nation.

Honestly, I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to mock JasonC, and the gold standard had already been abolished in the US by the time of WWII, which is a closer parallel (economically, with regard to Germany) to the present-day situation in Turkey.

Joe as far as I know it typically is round; both here (gyros) and in Turkey. Supposedly it helps with the uniformity of the roast. That's the first time I see a square one to be honest.

Pork Al Pastor is done the same way. It was a product of a Lebanese immigration into Mexico who brought the idea with them, modeled on shawarma which was modeled on doner.

And if that's not a reason to allow free immigration, I don't know what is. Pork Al Pastor is ******* amazing and delicious.

DIstrict Taco here in the DC metro area makes an incredibly cromulent version of it.

And yes, that is pineapple.

I've only ever seen round, but the square actually makes more sense. You'd only have to rotate it 4 times instead of a more constant rotation for even cooking. It looks like the burner might be designed to cook better that way. They also look to be carving a nice big sheet off instead of a bunch of small pieces like you usually see.

Despite what most people think, you can eat really cheap in the UAE. This mixed grill was less than $10 (35 AED).
