You're a generous man. I really hesitate to touch anyone else's tune these days...

One of our facilities caught on fire a week or so ago. (I don't know why, but I have a hunch it started in the clogged spray painting fume hoods that I pointed out 3 years ago. See previous post about how I explained how something should be done and 2 years later I have to unfuck it because the opposite was done. Story for another time. But i wish I took more pictures of the incinerator which I presume is burnt to a crisp now).

So they relocated all the employees to our facility last week. They actually get to caravan in a Mercedes limo, I'll try and get a picture. Well, it lasted all of about a week and they decided that it wasn't worth the hassle. I've never seen a more lazy group of individuals in my life. I have also not heard the N word used so frequently in at least 15 years, when I worked at a fab shop in the inner city. (Also story for another time)

Somewhat related image.

That car belongs to my partner in the garage, and he is a pretty accomplished tuner who, incidentally, got my closed loop boost control dead on in one shot.
We help each other as best as we can.

Cat pic related. (Because our kitty, Müjgan)

That shot, when you only get one take. Best-timed monologue in all of television.

The visual timing is awesome. They had to have resynced the sound in post-production though, because at the safe viewing distance it takes the sound several seconds to get to you.

Also, as a minor quibble, the Titan IIIE is burning hydrazine and NTO in the main engine with a couple of solid boosters, not hydrogen/oxygen.

This was always my favorite... timing not quite as perfect, but the result is. Some NSFW language...

for pedantry on a matter which often goes un-noticed, but which people in my line of work deal with on a daily basis.

Picture of fire.

It amazes me the amount of finger pointing and blaming that goes on. Nobody wants to accept the fact that the reason things like this happen (and plants burn down) is because of labor cuts. Sure go ahead and eliminate all maintenance, tooling, line operators and then cry when issues arise.

Ok, I'll ask: WHY is the huge tank of sulphuric acid on fire?

Because 8000 amps at 80v is trying to squeeze through marshmallow fluff and peanut butter sandwiched between two pieces of aluminum.

Unrelated 144" v-belt that got into a fight with a 10x8 pump.

Sometimes marshmallow fluff and peanut butter is omitted from the recipe. And then you're trying to shove that same amount of power through a teeny tiny connection of aluminum and some titanium bolts...

Im so glad my job isn't boring. Every day is an adventure. Not sure how some of y'all do it. In the same cubicle all day every day doing the same mind numbing garbage.

I'm with you, there. Even though my job isn't *quite* as exciting most of the time.

Braineack copes by sieving through huge quantities of political memes, and researching conspiracy theories.

BTW - I'm a Project Manager trying to corral infrastructure and developer-types to get IT stuff done. The only diversion from my "cubicle" is trying to get them to play together nicely and not stand in their technical silos, tossing blame at one another. Not as physically challenging, but equally entertaining.

Yeah......

I do think about that every time I see a panel open here in the building. Lots of branch circuits in the older parts of it are still the original cloth-jacketed aluminum.

Hell, all of our emergency lighting circuits, and some of the older HVAC control circuits (VAV controls and such) are still on screw-in glass / porcelain fuse panels.
