OK not VW then (sort of)
Early 911s have a much simpler pan than later ones. The later ones have a much more nicely "tucked" oil cooler line set up.
Damn, I thought I could tell 911 pans from Bug pans but I couldn't.

Tiny bit of arcane Porsche legend/fact?
The 911 should not have been called that.
It should have been called the 901 as it was the FIRST design in the 900 series.
Early cars all start the VIN (not a VIN back then, a serial number) with the digits 901.
Porsche was imprisoned by the French after WWII and legend has it Peugeot did not like Porsche using ANY "model" number with a zero in the center.
For some reason not known by me he agreed and the most iconic sports car in history became the 911...

I would suggest submersing the probe at least up to the mounting interface. As in to the top of the threads if the sealing surface is a crush washer beneath the hex.
It it is possible that heat transfer to the air is cooling the switch and causing it to not respond properly.

I am going to presume that @Godless Commie will re-run his test with more than just the tip inserted (couldn’t help it) and report back.
Turns out low quality fan switches is a huge problem for him, too. He said he does not trust anything other than OEM in the past couple years.
Finding an OEM part is another problem. Next best thing is junkyards.
He told me he has maybe four such good (tested) switches he has gotten from junkyards set aside, and I will go buy one from him on Monday.
I may even get a 2 terminal switch and just ground one of them. No big deal.

Speaking of tips, I called a tech who works at a popular Mazda service. He mostly deals with electrical problems.
Turns out low quality fan switches is a huge problem for him, too. He said he does not trust anything than OEM in the past couple years.
Finding an OEM part is another problem. Next best thing is junkyards.
He told me he has maybe four such good (tested) switches set aside, and I will go buy one from him on Monday.

Try to find a new vacuum switching valve (HVAC controller) for an early American car (1970 BB Chevelle) that works...
You will not be able too. I tried 6 different sources. Even the good places like Old Air Products were crap.
Only fix is to find a decent original one and send that off to a specialist to have it rebuilt.
Big money and lots of time/searching for what was a $10 part years ago.
Welcome to the "new better" parts world courtesy of China...
This is the single biggest issue in the parts world right now and it's just going to get worse

When I start doing my videos this is the puppy I'm targeting.
I agree with much that he says, not all but a lot.
I don't agree with the comments at 8:40 minutes in AT ALL EVER.
I may be wrong but I thought I saw something somewhere during the height of SM than said "there are more Miatas being raced right now than all of the other makes combined".
I thought it was the company Mazda themselves.
Anyone else remember this?

50's research says blue is soothing? Same reason nurse scrubs are that color. I guess the white stripe some have is supposed to help recover from a spin?
