Went to the drivers license office today. My license expired in January, and the amnesty on renewals expires Aug 1, so I figured it was time.

Literally everyone in here, aside from me, is still wearing a mask, despite the state having dropped this requirement several weeks ago. Some are double-masked.

The people have decided that they enjoy this, I suppose...

Take today, for example. I drove out to Des Plains, a suburb to the north-west of Chicago, to visit the driver's license office. While standing in the around-the-building line, I saw this person waddling out of the supermarket which is located in the same strip-mall:

Now, don't get me wrong here: I enjoy a bit of fluff on a woman. Cuddleability is important.

But when the circumference exceeds the height, there's a problem.

Welcome to America, where the Rich get Skinnier, and the Poor get Fatter. Oh, and one of your compressed heads as a bonus...

But, in seriousness, I think that there is actually something to this.

Wrong thread for politics, but a poignant observation.

It is the wrong thread, but it somehow fit. It’s very similar in parts of Maine, where there are no restrictions.

Is a license renewal in IL the same soul-sucking experience as in most places?

Not necessarily a mid-west thing: At the time of her death, Queen Victoria's circumference was longer than her vertical height! (she was a "short-****" though, making this easier to achieve).

Very long line outside the building (about two hours) but, once inside, it was simple and efficient.

Outside, while in line, I saw this tree, which has consumed the fence next to it:

You do seem to be on to something.
Here in the Bible Belt of Oklahoma about the only masks I see are on employees at businesses who still require them to be worn.
I did see a couple of slow moving fatties with rainbow colored hair wearing masks at WalMart yesterday.
Not wanting to profile (who am I kidding) but my guess is they were a couple of vertically challenged 300+ pound gay women.
Typical for Oklahoma, our state has some of the highest obesity rates in a country known for growing over sized Bubba's and Karen's.

I even had a run in with a Karen in the parking lot, a first for me personally.
As best I can tell she had a problem with the bumper sticker on my pickup that says,
"God Bless our troops especially our Snipers"
She spent 2 or 3 minutes yelling at the top of her lungs about what a piece of trash I am for glorifying murderers who wear uniforms, etc, etc, etc.
People were walking past and watching her rant but I just stood there without saying a word till she tapered off and walked towards her nice new Audi SUV.
I never said a word and still don't know what I should have done.
What can you say to crazy?
