I was driving along on the freeway today. Heavy traffic, speeds around 55-60 mph.
Something just caught my eye in the middle of the road. Looked like a rag at first.
As I got closer I realized it was a tiny kitten! In the middle of a very busy freeway, sprawled on the pavement in sheer terror, right on the white line.
I immediately turned on my 4 way lights, started breaking and pulling over to the emergency lane.
Put it in reverse once I was on the e-lane, and backed up as fast as I could.
I just took a deep breath and jumped on the road, waving my arms, yelling people to slow down, dodging cars as best as I can.
A truck driver saw what I was up to and just leaned on his horn and made his truck wider by swerving as he slowed down.
I finally made it to the middle of the road, reached down and the kitten just ran away a few feet.
Just dove after it and grabbed the frightened kitten without causing harm.
People started honking and clapping, and giving me a thumbs up.
As I made my way back to the emergency lane, an undercover cop van stopped and rolled the window down. It was full of plainclothes cops.
The cop in the front seat took one look at the kitten, and gave me a nod. They had understood what had just happened.
I sat in the car for a few minutes to catch my breath, clutching the shaking kitten.
Then I took the first exit to turn around and head back home. My wife was in disbelief.
We do not have a name yet.

She is almost 8 lbs of sheer terror in its most graceful form, pure energy in the shape of lazy summer clouds at sunset.
She is what you would expect at the end of a very successful particle collision experiment.

A few days ago, on one of my Maine-to-CT runs, stopped at the lovely Charlton MA service area to walk the dog and fill up. Got to witness a couple from Tennessee trying to find a functioning Tesla SuperCharger for their Model 3. They had 6 to choose from.
The guy looked like a pleasant sort, and I was going to ask him how he liked the Tesla and how the chargers work, but after watching him frustrated and unsuccessful with 3 different chargers, I figured he didn’t need to talk to me.
I doubt that’s a typical situation, but I’m pretty sure that I could find it on a must-make 500 mile run.
