You are my fellow desert-rat, brother. That's a ****-all of a climb, is it not?

(And you did a better job than I of capturing the scale of that place.)

This was my first trip to Northern AZ. And because of the over-all Karen feel of Sedona, I will probably never go back that that specific place. It left a sour taste for me. Seeing the turquoise arches was the moment I put it all together.

But goddamn, there is some beautiful land in that little slice of heaven which the City of Sedona has chosen to convert into their own personal HOA. (Be sure to pay off the mayor before blasting out the cliffside to build yet more luxury resorts.)

Because **** You, Sedona. You are annihilating the very landscape which you have been entrusted to preserve, and are selling off to the lowest bidder.

My sister lives in Tucson and Hilton gave me a deal to sit through their timeshare scam. My sister loves that area, so we went there. Definitely a lot of touristy golf club type places, but there are some small shops and lots of good hiking. If we go back, we want to stay in Jerome. A bit of a drive, but it's a really cool town.

Also, I like to take pictures of my wife taking pictures.

I was in the way of her picture:

We lived in the area for about 30 years, and I've never really cared for Sedona. I LOL'd the first time I drove past the turquoise arches... it was quite a fight locally to get the McD's there approved. Too low-brow for the hoity-toities... the turquoise sign was the compromise. The snobbery of some of the folks there is astounding, considering half of Sedona is trailer park shitholes. Sedona also attracts every nutjob in the world.

It is a place of amazing natural beauty, though, and my wife and I hiked there a fair bit. Our favorite was Devil's bridge.

Random Northern AZ pic...
