Credit cards have legal protections preventing the consumer from being financially liable. Debit cards have no similar legal protection. You must rely on the goodwill of your bank to reimburse you, if they have any.

But gold. unlike credit or debit cards, has the physical quality of being able to smash in the head of a would-be fraudster, thus eliminating the need to petition a bank for reimbursement.


In a broader sense, though, it was mostly a jab at that portion of the US population who fixates on the gold standard, as though eliminating the ability of the Federal Reserve to rob us of the value of our held currency would not immediately be met by some other means of permitting our government to control and extort us for the personal gain of the elected elite and their corporate patrons.
