So Amphenol has a cool new XLR connector out.

Yes, Amphanol. I know, right?

Ever since Neutrik discontinued the NC3-(x)EZ series, my life has been pain and hell. I haven't tried one of the Amphenol connectors yet, got some samples on order. It looks slightly more complex than the old Neutrik, but it's still better than soldering.

Bitchin'.

You can come try it out whenever you want, just promise not shoot my 25lb BULLdog if you feel your life is threatened.

My latest inspiration has been more complicated pieces by Scale The Summit and Tribal Tech (though I will probably never be 1/10th the player that Gary Willis is). Going direct in is SUCH a huge help for practicing.

Not soldering sounds like a good idea.

I know it sounds silly, but it's a massive time-saver when you're running a manufacturing operation, making hundreds of terminations at a time.

It's weird because Amphenol is not the kind of company you expect this kind of innovation to come from. Neutrik is constantly inventing cool new stuff, but Amphenol is more about mil-spec connectors and other stuff that looks like it was created with stone tools and the jawbone of a whale.

It really threw me for a loop when a friend informed me that they had built something cool. I'd have been less surprised if he said that Switchcraft was building it, and they haven't done anything new and innovative since WWII.

I see lots of Amphenol in the oil and gas industry, but haven't been around long enough to form opinions like that. I see what you mean. From my AV perspective, it sure is a pain dealing with poor quality XLR connectors. I'll be looking into these new ones. I really need to start making my own cables.

Keith powercoated them for his targa miata, emilio said that's a bad idea, so Keith destroyed them so they don't eventually/accidentally get used on a track car in the unknown future.

At least mark them someway instead and make a nice coffee table out of them or something!!

I like Keith though, he's a nice guy and helped me out in the past.
