BROSZ:
the phablets are coming. I am on Verizon. I am eyeing the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the HTC Droid DNA DLX Deluxe (J Butterfly or whatever it is this week). I could preorder the GNII now and probably be happy since it has the cool multitasking and removable SDmicro and battery but should I wait for final details on the specs of the DNA? Rumor has it that the battery is small and there is no SD Card slot but the resolution is immense (1080p 440ppi density) and it's slightly faster and I am probably slightly in favor of Sense over TouchWiz (I have an OG Droid Incredible now). Also the GN2 probably will have more customers and awesome accessories so I'm leaning that way. It's nov 6. vote early and often on my next phone. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1352222825https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1352222825 |
Do you think the monster size phone will work for you? Do you always wear baggy pants with big pockets and/or carry your murse?
|

I always wear jeans. I have created a foam cutout that shows the increase in size from my current phone to the GN2. I am tempted to make a more solid version and temporarily attach it to my phone to see if it increases the bulge in my pants beyond what the ladies enjoy seeing.
BEHOLD*: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1352225545 * I am not interested in the Samsung Behold. |
I am sick of Sense and Touchwiz and waiting for updates, so I am going to get a Nexus 4. But being on verizon, you are stuck with CDMA bullshit, so you don't want that. I like HTC better than Sammy, but HTC has been a bitch about locking bootloaders lately, so I would go with the GN2.
|
I have no problem stuff my GS3 which is just a touch smaller (otterbox case), I could definitely go larger and wish I could. I don't always wear jeans either, zero regret from the phoen size.
The Note 2 is the way to go if you want removable storage which you do, and although unscientifically, I think Samsung hardware is more reliable. Since you're on Verizon and you will pay out the ass for data usage, you want that removable storage if you use the phone to store music. I also strongly feel the TouchAIDS is significantly more awful than Sense, so awful that it must be removed immediately and replaced with a "pure JB" ROM; I love CM10 which will make it's way to the Note2. |
I played with a Note 2 in the T-Maybe store this weekend, and I fully intend on getting one in three months when my upgrade comes up unless some other new hotness comes out before then. It's most bitchin, and the screen is gorgeous.
|
the screen is probably gorgeous
but compared to a 440 pixel per inch OLED? i do also believe the SGN2 will be the better phone and have more overall quality in terms of photos and screen colors. |
Been shopping phones for a while, finally picked one and ordered it a few mins ago.
Nokia Lumia 900, gonna try the windows OS. Ill make my own Windows thread and you gays wont be allowed in. |
It's cool. Nobody cares.
|
Tardy to the party, I just ordered the GN2 through walmart for AT&T. ($50 less) Coming from a 4.3 inch screen. The specs sold me on it, I stopped at t-mo to check out the phone, its not too bad in the pocket. My HTC Inspire weighs as much as a brick, and the thinness of the GN2 makes it feel good in my pocket.
|
I switched to a Galaxy S3 in October, and I really like it. I haven't replaced the rom yet; Sprint's Jellybean update came through last week and the UI response time on the phone is noticeably faster. I put a 64GB sd card in it but haven't needed most of it yet.
The bigger screen is a vast improvement over my iPhone 3GS, and my wife's 4S. I have a rubber case with an extended battery in it, and even with that have no issues with it fitting in my pocket. Warning: water resistance of this phone is non-existent; it will quickly find its way through the seam around the edge, as I discovered when I used it while it was raining. My rubber cover probably helped the water go in through the seam. I took the battery and sd card out and left it under a desk lamp overnight to make sure it was completely dried out and have had no issues with the phone. Hustler - you are running CM10 on yours? Any issues? |
Yes, CM10 is relatively flawless. I've been running it for 2+ months and I've had one lock-up where the voice and 3g would not work but a "restore" fixed it. Make sure and do a back-up occassionally.
I bet the JB/TouchAIDS launcher is awful. |
next week (11/13) Verizon is going to announce the Droid DNA.
hmmmm. |

All galaxy phones besides the note are going to be free after mail in rebate the 16th and 17th on t-mobile. Looks like I'm going to be upgrading to an SGIII sooner than expected.

Which sucks because the note might actually make me look like this: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1352922517 |
I got the Note 2 today. Its amazing. So silky smooth. I love that I can delete home screens. Ive just had one with no icons for a few months now, so its nice to go back to it.
I dont have particularly large hands, and its not awkward to hold, its so light for its size, my thumb is a bit shorts to do everything single handed, but I expected that. |

On a related note, the Droid DNA is still getting pretty solid reviews FROM THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN USING IT. Still annoyed by small storage and battery sizes. EFFERS. I need to go to a T-Mo store and try the G Note 2's size on for size. |
Thinking about replacing my S2 LTE 4.5 with the new Nexus 4. And lucky SOB get their order in before they sold out?
|
TW isnt that bad. Its just a copy of mac OS.

CM10M2 is good, I've been running it and it's flawless for the last month or so. CM is now working on 4.2.1 code shich has some fairly significant changes so it will take time. CM10M2 is very good. |
^Yeah, exactly why I didnt understand the "OMG its the worst thing ever" opinion. Honestly TW1.0 wasnt that bad at all. We'll see what I go with. Typically I like something based off CM or pure AOSP but with another dev stripping everything out of it that doesnt need to be there, then adding gapps back in. Whats weird is that there are two different dev sections on xda, dev and original dev. Without a very good explanation of what goes in which section. Looks like slim makes a rom for it. Perfect.

I went to the ATT store (i'm VZW but an opportunist) and picked up the Galaxy Note 2 and played around with it. Haters gon hate but I don't feel it's unusably big. Of course ATT had all their anti-theft garbage stuck on it AND the flippy case too so that it was impossible to close the case or actually use the phone with your left hand. I had no problem ------- it and reaching my thumb across its copius girth.
I picked up the GN1 and shoved that in my pocket (size is comparable enough) and even with all the SECURITY PROTRUSIONS it fit in my pocket easily. Did I mention I took a piece of ABS plastic and cut it roughly to the dimensions of a GN2 and shoved it in my pocket for an afternoon? It's fine. Maybe a bit of a stretch in jeggings but I'm over 14 and not a girl. |
Screw you guys, I had to go back to CM7.2 to get my camera to work. I need a house so I can buy a new phone!
|
Slim Bean is good, coin toss between that and CM10.

It all depends on how many kids you want to end up with. If you're done, go for it.

I don't think I'd charge in my pocket. I still want one more kid. First one is too cute to not have a second. And it's Qi like the Chinese word for "life force" aka "chi" |
Hmmm, it seems like juice defender doesnt work on the sgs3 with slimbean but with worked on the sgs1 with slimbean. Puzzling. Have to figure out how to make this work I guess or hand a new program that shuts data off when the phone is locked. Ok, it decided to work. Just took a while to enable I guess.

You haven't needed anything like an app killer since Gingerbread. Android has grown-up since then. The reason you rub Slimbean is so you don't have to run things like app killers.

Kind of. It lets gmail and facebook messenger through every once and a while.

I got the note2.
it's big but not so big that my man-hands can't grasp it. I strain to reach the notification bar one handed though. |
Fits comfortably in a pocket?

Bought a Nexus 4. My sprint contract is up in a week, estimated delivery is 4-5 weeks. Close enough.

It IS thin.. .31 inches or something. Thinner than my OG Droid Incredible without its case. So in that sense, it's less pocket bulk. It's a little challenging to work with one handed because it's a little slippery but I can deal. |

Why dont youtube videos posted on this site work on my new phone?
|
Can your phone play other youtube videos?
|
4.2 and on don't include flash. This makes me sad in the pants because the flash version of the desktop site is somehow better than the awful YouTube app. They need to fix that shit.

yeah, when they arent embeded in flash on forums... I thought only apple was getting rid of flash support... this makes me sad. |
I'm bumping this thread because fuck you, that's why, plus I moved from a Samsung Galaxy S4 to a Nexus5. I always though the S4 was a pretty decent phone as far as Android was concerned, but the Nexus5 running naked Android 4.4.4 is goddamn amazeballs. In a word, Its snappy. Its just more responsive in everything it does. It does not have a bunch of stupid addon mystery "value added" programs foisted on the device by the service provider or hadware manufacturer. Its just exactly everything I need. I have this feeling that I'm not ever going to be happy with anything else ever again, unless its also naked android.
I will say that battery life was better on the S4, but its a minor complaint. Inductive chargers are also win and a half. What are you people running now? I'd love to hear your opinions of what you were using compared to what you have now. |
I think the S4 is winning in battery life because of the AMOLED screen vs I believe IPS in the nexus.
|
I'm using a rooted S5, and have no complaints. It's fast, plenty of storage, and it has great battery life. I haven't crashed it yet which is a good sign.
|
I just broke my old faithful N4 from my lap in the miata to the ground
Previously using a N1. Waiting on N6 now. Got a buddy that works for a pretty sweet company overnight me a temporary replacement. They have to maintain a massive list of devices, all registered and tested to be compliant with other stuff. Guess they won't miss a HTC one for a few weeks :giggle: No other way to android, nexus devices only :dealwithit: |
