I am still on the original Nexus that was released back in 2011 or so. I am seriously considering checking out the Droid Turbo that comes out today. The biggest thing that I like about it is the huge ass battery.

If I hadn't broken the nexus that's what I'd still be doing, ATT prepaid because cheap. N4 because paid for heh
That's what I like about the nexus though, you don't really need to get into flashing anything with em. I had a S2 with touchwiz for a short while and went through all that, not really interested enough to keep up on it any more. I like how clean they come out the box, and the fact that they generally get OTA well before sammy and the like catch up or even give up. For someone not wanting to DIY install roms, and then keep up on em, it's the way to go! Edit: May I please purchase said N1, miss mine so much! |
If I wanted a phone where I didnt have to flash Roms I'd buy an iPhone.
|
You're right, I'd call it the iphone of the android world. Generally top of the line OS, it's kept up with far better support, and it just works without a lot of retarded clutter or maintenance. As far as I've ever seen, it's the most supported android series of phones.

The biggest limiting factor for me is that I won't leave VWZ. I really like the Nexus5 or the OnePlusOne but they are not offered on VWZ so I won't get them. The only reason I stay with VWZ is that they have coverage like no one else. On my last trip to VA I had great cell signal, mostly 4g, over the whole trip. My girlfriend who is on T-mobile had signal when we were in major cities, but once we were out of those then she would have nothing.

Currently going on a week+ on the Note 4. Previously had the Galaxy S4. Huge(literally) upgrade. I love everything about the phone due to being on it more than my computer. The stylus is very handy for taking notes and making lists while in the bakery.
The only thing I hate is Touch Wiz. I've had my S4 rooted and on AOSP vanilla android the moment a ROM was made available for it and Touch Wiz is just horrible. I thought I could ignore it, and have themed the hell out of it with Nova Launcher, AOSP Keyboard, skins etc. etc. but it still bugs me. I'm patiently waiting for an AOSP ROM to come out, and the phone is mostly perfect, but it is hard to go from stock to a Samsung themed ROM. Part of me wants to return it and keep using my S4 until the 12th of November, when the Nexus 6 comes out. |

I wish you all the best on waiting for that AOSP ROM to come out, still hasn't happened for the Note 3. I've been waiting for the same thing since the launch of my Note 3. Next phone will be Nexus 6.

I'm still within the 14 day return period so I'm not too worried, especially since I bought it off contract. |
Rooted Note II since the olden days.
I promised myself I'd never go above 5 inch phone but fuck me if that's simply impossible for something made this year. I'm at 5.5" now and 5.2" seems pointless. Especially since the Droid TRUBO is fugly and crapped up with verizon crapware. Which leaves the "why bother" Moto X and the Nexus 6. But that's even bigger than my current phone. I do wanna little taste of android L.... |
I had all the same thoughts when coming from my S4. The Note 4 took some serious getting used to. As much as I like the Nexus 6 from an AOSP perspective, it is even bigger then the N4!
As someone who hasn't had software based buttons, how hard was it for everyone switching from capacitive/physical Home/Menu/Back buttons? |

Slimrom has an AOSP based rom for all version of the note 3. Its not pure AOSP, its an even more stripped down version, pure and stable.

I have an AT&T phone and have yet to see a non touchwiz based ROM. I'm no android guru but I still haven't seen anything that's AOSP based for my phone, including the one you mentioned.

Contemplating picking up a Note 4 over a Nexus 6. I just don't know if I'll be able to deal with Touchwiz. Any good roms out for it? Cyanogenmod? Or maybe do we know if there will be a Google Play edition?

Yeah... I'm so wishy washy. I like the note 4 specs and form factor more then the Nexus 6. But terrible samsung software kinds kills it for me.

I'm bumping this thread because fuck you, that's why, plus I moved from a Samsung Galaxy S4 to a Nexus5. I always though the S4 was a pretty decent phone as far as Android was concerned, but the Nexus5 running naked Android 4.4.4 is goddamn amazeballs.

The HTC One I get to borrow is a google play edition, score!
Patiently waiting for Lollipop, curious as to how long it's gonna take... |
so I ordered a 64 gb Droid Trubo (because Trubo) on Friday because it was cheap. And I really didn't want a 6 inch phablet again, even if nexus. Anyway, I can send verizon my old and not busted OG Droid Incredible and they'll give me $100 for it. That makes the Trubo $50.
Now today Motorola is doing a deal on the Moto X. A penny on verizon (or $50 for the 32gb on contract) orrrrr $140 off the full price--so $360. I also have a coupon for the educational discount ($50) but it may not stack. If it does, that's $310 for a $500 phone and I might just buy one to flip or something. If the X was available on Sprint, I'd totally just buy one and move to Ting and be done with it. But if you were on verizon, which would you do? a) Droid Turbo 64 gb for $50 b) Moto X 32 gb for $50 c) Moto X 16/32 gb for $310/360 (or $360/410 if not stackable) (note that this is pointless if it's not a use anywhere phone) d) something else. my contract is up as of last week so in theory, I can go anywherez. There are also options like moto x on page plus ($360 and 40 or 55/month.. which is cheap) |

Verizon is currently giving away a free G Pad 8.3 (which runs Android L) with purchase of 50 dollar G3. Though if you've got coin - having owned two Nexus 7's and a Nexus 9, I highly recommend the Nex 9 tablet. |
Well I have a Turbo waiting for me at home...
and two coupons for the X and I don't need a tablet. so I guess I got some time to decide. |
My Note 4 is getting replaced by Sprint tomorrow. Whenever I was scrolling/dragging/typing, the phone would freeze occasionally for 1 second, and then mash all the commands I had entered in at once. While one second doesn't sound terrible, it is REALLY frustrating when scrolling or swiping through pages. Especially when I am used to the buttery smoothness of my S4 running 4.4 SlimRom AOSP.
I tried factory resetting it, flashing stock firmware through Odin and Kies, but nothing fixed it. So I brought it into the Sprint store and the tech said I was the 3rd person hes seen with the issue(and I'm in Southern Utah((not a big town))). I guess it is a motherboard defect that has been presenting itself on the earliest batch of N4s, and seeing as I got mine the day before release, that may have been mine. So glad it wasn't software related. Although you can fix most of it with Nova Launcher/Google keyboard/Xposed, I never have enjoyed Touchwiz much. After using the store demo model, it was light years smoother than my current phone. Glad I'm not stuck with a $700+ POS. If my replacement phone is as smooth as the store model, I won't have anymore complaints. This is why you add the $10 insurance to your phone as well. Sprint will replace your phone no questions asked twice($75 after) if you are having problems with it. Very lucky since I paid out of contract for it. |
So I've had my Nexus 6 for 2 weeks and love it. I was worried about hardware quality since I guess motorola has been a little spotty lately with their products. But I've got a moto 360 and the nexus 6 and am in love. The only downside so far to the 6 is I wish I still had silent mode and not that "priority" mode for notifications. But that's really a complaint with lolipop and not the nexus 6 par-say.
