Mount some sort of comfortable stock there. That can't be comfortable to fly into the shoulder.

And **** for 50 dollars, I need a deal like that.

Knoxx SpecOps recoil stock FTMFW. It will let you shoot ridiculous 12 ga loads without killing your shoulder. I have one on a cheap-*** Maverick 88 12 ga with a 18" barrell and it is great. 3" turkey loads? No problem.

But yours is 20 ga (not as much kick) and they may not make one for that gun anyway.

I hold it to the side (pistol grip), not on my shoulder. I might put some sort of rubber sleeve where my left hand goes for better grip.

I'm not a huge fan of a bolt action shotgun but $50 wasn't bad for a toy. I have the thing under my bed right now and I can't figure out how to "store" it. Loaded, unloaded, safety on/off, two in the mag, two +one in the chamber, ??? A pump shotgun is so much easier to deal with. Just pump and you are ready to go. With this thing you have to run the bolt in the dark when the bad guy is coming.

My first shotgun was a Remington International single shot 20ga.

When it had to serve for home defense duty before I got a handgun, it always had one in it.

Now that I have a daughter, I'm a little more cautious.

Pumps are nice not only for this reason, but also because it gives the crook one last chance to run without wasting a round on a warning shot.

Only a fool would fire a warning shot. If there truly is justification to pull the trigger, then do what has to be done. A warning shot puts you at a lesser advantage (assuming you had an advantage to start with) e.g., My weapon is no longer pointed at the threat, my weapon has one less round then I started with, I am slightly dazed from discharging my weapon in close quarters, and I just gave the bad guy more time to do harm to me. Then there is the risk of collateral damage from a warning shot. If the tables where turned do you think the bad guy would give you a warning shot?

EDITED for brevity. (but why does everyone always assume you're an idiot)

Milton: I don't think I meant what you think I meant.

OP: I was trying to say if you have kids, it's not a good idea to keep one chambered. But I understand it's hard to chamber a bolt action at night, groggy, and panicking. Either buy a pump (which makes a cool noise when you chamber it which MAY scare away an intruder, but MAY also make you an easier target), or buy a good, quick open gun safe and leave it read to rock 'n roll.

So, how about some ideas for my boomstick (trying to rescue the thread before it turns into something it wasn't meant to be). Laser? Flashlight? Just weld a mounting bracket on the barrel? I do not want to pay $150 for a laser. A $10 laser pointer with a DIY bracket will work just fine.

warning shots will do nothing but get you shot and/or arrested.

Read the thread. He established what he was saying 2 post down from the original.

But yeah, I agree. If you are going to pull it, you need to use it.

You can use black e-tape or duct tape to mount it...

I thought you were going to show me a Kipkay flashlight balloon popping laser or something <G>. Yeah, I could do one of those flashlights. I would definitely want to make a mounting bracket for it (gotta have a project)!

Nope! Something low-$$$ yet functional...

(I couldn't see putting $100 illumination on a $50 shotgun.)

No, this is wrong on so many levels.

>>gives the crook one last chance to run

You're not supposed to be doing this. You're afraid for your life, not playing a sport where fairness is a consideration. If you're not afraid for your life, there's no justification for brandishing the gun.

>> wasting a round on a warning shot

Jesus ******* christ. Warning shots are not allowed. If you aren't in fear for your life, you shouldn't be shooting your gun. If you are in fear for your life, why are you firing warning shots and trying to give the burglar all sorts of help to stay alive?

The ACTUAL benefit of pump shotguns is that:
-they are cheap
-they are reliable
-they are legal nearly everywhere in the US
-they can hold lots of ammo, at least by shotgun standards
-they **** people up badly if you hit them at less than 30 yards (and they aren't wearing protective gear)

These are all real benefits. Until recently, semiautos didn't really beat pumps for reliability, magazine capacity or price. All the other benefits are made up bullshit.

I'll take my Saiga-12 with 20 round drum any day over this "work the slide to frighten the burglar" bullshit theory. The burglar who gets his torso hollowed out by the first burst will serve as warning to the others. And if they flee at less than 1200 fps, they are gonna be picking buckshot out of their hides.

Pic related, say hello to my leetle friend.

i'm thinking since you've already shortened the stock and the barrell, shorten them some more, maybe work the buttstock into more of a pistol grip and saw of the barrel another 6". then mount a shell holder on the forestock, then either the flashlight or a laser. I'd go with the laser since if you ever use it, it will be in your own home and i don't think you'll be needing the flashlight to see your way around.

Isn't the barrel already at 18 inches? If he saws more off without filing a form 1 to make a short barreled shotgun, he is committing a felony.

jeez...I should have left up my original response to Milton Tucker, but didn't want to derail the OPs thread.
