Firefly was a hell of a good show. Not by any means deep and replete with serious social commentary, just a fun space-western in a style I'd not seen before.

Personally, I kind of disliked Serenity. It felt kind of forced to me, like "Here, we have made this movie for the sole purpose of responding to all the fanmail we've received over the past few years."

It wasn't horrible by any means, I was just expecting something different.

Odd. I just watched Blade Runner (Final Cut) two nights ago. It had been a while since I'd last seen it, and my wife had never seen it. Really enjoyable.

I just noticed that Firefly is only listed as 14 episodes long. What happened?

This thread is the answer to the question: why are most miata owners lonely and single?

Serious? You know all that Alien trivia but you haven't heard any of the internets talking about Firefly?

It was an awesome show with a good following, so FOX cancelled them. There was a huge internet petition to get the show back, it didn't work.

Joe, you should look into Revolution. Same theory, Joss Wedon, colorful, slightly sci fi, and focused around a couple hot chicks.

The reason for my avatar change was not just blatant fanaticism.

It's for this! Aliens: Colonial Marines.

I have been so stoked since I saw the trailer last year. There are so many things that make this great and authentic (to some respect). The pings from the motion tracker (as well as the sweeps), the sound of the M41A Pulse Rifle (I'm seriously hoping that the PN30 grenade launcher sounds the same)....and of course, the M56 Smart Gun... I see they kept the crane system with the built in IR. The sentry systems look perfect and they link up like they should. AND the M240 Incinerator Unit.....**** yes, **** yes.

I'm really, really hoping they include the correct grenades for...those times when you just can't escape. Vasquez :-(

M577A3 APC - I haven't confirmed if they'll have the Republic Electric RE700 20mm guns or not, but I sure as hell hope so. Mind you these gatling guns shot depleted uranium rounds.

UD-4L Dropship - I've seen the Cheyenne in the trailers but I'm not sure if it's just for nostalgia or if you'll be able to pilot it and drop the APC. I'll just have to wait to find out.

I'm really curious of the xenomorphs in the game. They got the Hive Warrior correct. I know the developers will probably put their own spin on some new xenos. The "spitter" looks interesting. Seems to have a self destruct thing going on. I'm stoked.

I'm also curious if they will have any androids like Bishop escorting the Colonial Marines. You know, Bishop (341-B) was a serious step up from Ash (120-A/2). Neither of them were Weyland directly (alleged), but I wouldn't be surprised if Bishop was also Hyperdyne Systems in conjuction with Michael Bishop.

This will be taking place on Acheron LV426....

Edit: Holy crap, the plamsa cutter XD

It's not trivia, it's more than that. This is the first I've ever had a chance to spout out some Alien knowledge. I can give you full names of every character, job titles, all weapons (and ID numbers), manufacturer names, all vehicles and ships (ID numbers and origins), the Weyland family history and dates (not so much Yutani), etc...It's been easy because I was raised on these movies.

I've heard people talking about it, but never looked into it. That sucks that it was cancelled. Did FOX ever give a reason why?

Well, it's official. I have been out-nerded.

According to FOX, it was just a simple numbers game. The show had extremely high production costs, and it wasn't generating huge ratings. (The latter had a lot to do with the fact that the network parked it in a Friday night timeslot, which is historically a shitty place for a new show to be.)

Think back to the state of network TV in 2002. Reality shows were still fresh and new. And in addition to being "all the rage" among viewers, they were also extremely cheap to produce. No sets, no costumes, no effects, no actor's salaries, no location shooting... In terms of profit margin, programs like "Survivor" were right up there with professional wrestling- highly profitable, and easy to make. It was a hard paradigm for any scripted program to compete against.

Thank you guys. I got on my Scifi mood again. I watched total recall, Blade Runner (final cut), and Clockwork orange. I'll make sure to watch all 4 Alien movies, Prometheus, Logans Run, Soylent Green, and THX-1138 this week.
