I've picked up several new bottles of late. And when trying something new, which I hope will be excellent to drink, I prefer that it be my first glass of the evening on a fresh palate,

Opened the Jamesons Caskmates tonight.

It's pretty good, actually. There's a definite malty undertone, but it's not screaming BEER! in your face, in the way that some of the more aggressive bourbon-barrel stouts yell WHISKEY! at you.

The finish is notably smoother than regular Jamesons- it lacks that bite that lingers on the tongue. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is entirely a matter of personal preference; to me, it's always made Jamesons taste like a cheap, immature whiskey. This one is more like a 10 year old Glenmorangie in terms of smoothness.

I'll probably keep a bottle of it around. Not mind-blowing by any means, but decent for the price.

Hey, if you guys want to try a serious barrel aged (Islay scotch, no less) beer, you have to try this one from Sierra Nevada's special selections. This is not for the faint of heart, and it is certainly not "just another beer" that you will soon forget. This stuff has LEGS! I had it on tap last week during the SF Beer Week events and was completely blown away. This has to be one of the most amazing beers I have ever tasted. If you don't love the stronger peety, smokey flavored scotches, then this definitely ain't for you, but if you do, prepare to be amazed. I couldn't believe this was a beer made by Sierra Nevada, but heck, I guess they must know a thing or two about brewing (for more than mass production).

I too am enjoying this series of beers from Sierra Nevada. I've got these hiding in the back of the fridge. :likecat:

I'm trying to finish off a half full keg of hefe to make room for a cider I have in the fermenter. All my kegs are full.

It's harder work than you would expect.

Clearly you need to buy more kegs.

At first I was a bit disappointed(seemed a bit harsh), but as I've been sipping it with dinner it's growing on me a lot. I definitely wouldn't guess that it's 13%.

I suspect it would age really well, but foolishly only bought one.

Had this one last night. Was very good. Heavy and dark for sure, but great flavor and not overwhelming. It poured with a perfect head, too, but that went away by the time I rebooted my stupid old phone and got the camera to work.

I'm with you, I hate the bourbon barrel aged beers. I want a good bourbon or a good beer, not a mediocre blend of the two.

That's ok guys, just means there will be all the more available for me. :likecat:

I don't mind bourbon or whiskey or wood aged beer, as long as it actually adds something to the beer. Sometimes I feel like its a marketing decision just so they can add "barrel aged" to the label.

(Said the guy with the 5 gallon whiskey barrel in his kitchen)

I've been drinking these awesome brews just for the awesome labels... and the Crowd Control is my fav

So, until now I had pretty much given up on single IPAS. THIS You should try, I got it at my local Kroger and this company makes that ever popular (I made fun of it here but find myself craving) the burbon aged Tenfiddy, the regular amazing imperial stouts ten fiddy and I prey to Lord baby Jesus they make an equal dbl NEIPA. I only had one Rodeo Clown b4 this so listen Linda.

 I love the normal Ten Fiddy but I think I should have been warned that the burbon aged is more of a sipper... we're of a TRUBO mindset you know? I'm not a chugger but while I appreciate a good scotch, it isn't my thing/have to be in the mood and I feel the barrel aged stuff is somewhat similar. :)
