Oh man, this popped up on my Miata for sale filter here in Iowa. I think I even see a fast food cup in the door there.
So rare.

I got a few nibbles, and two people actually came to look at / drive it, but by September 2016 it still hadn't sold. One guy offered me $3k and I laughed.
As it happens, I took the job in Chicago in September 2016, so I was kinda happy that the car didn't sell, and brought it with me. But I kept the Autotrader ad up so I could continue to measure the market, as this is something that really interests me. On average, I get about one call every two months on it.

Wanna sell a Miata in New England? Wait until the shittiest part of winter to list it. Go figure.

Feeling the need to gloat a bit. Found this 2003 MCS (Club Sport) with 110k miles. All original, one owner for $3700. Listed in CL about 90 miles away, no phone number or email link in ad. Had to do some snooping around the web to track down the seller and get a message to them via another web service.
For those of you not familiar with the MCS
2003 only
White or red, with or without softop. 25 of each variant made, 200 total. Only Miata ever sold without soft top,
- No A/C
- No radio
- No P/S
-Sport suspension
- Torsen
- 5 spd 4.3 only
The rarest of the 89-05 Miatas brought into North America. This one was in great shape. Body perfect but oxidized paint. Interior nearly perfect but form some minor wear on driver seat. Our is the no softop version so it left the factory with a matching hardtop. Te owner actually had the dealer install a tan cloth softop so it had both. The softop was pretty beat so we pulled it out and tossed it. We are keeping all the other OEM pieces for posterity, including the original long block/VIN. Meanwhile, we'll swap some parts in for a local TT series.
I don't think I'll ever sell it. At some point we'll rebuild the OEM engine and put it all back to "as delivered" condition. It's a future classic IMO.
After paint correction with 15x8 Beryllium & 205 VR-1. Headlights need to be replaced, discolored inside.

Nice find/hunt down. You could probably turn it around for 20k on miata.net if you were so inclined. But it's nice to keep something so rare in the family, I agree.
i also agree on facelift no tupperware.

Yarp. It's a keeper. Everyone I have told about the car thinks I could get at least 8k for it as is. It has a radio now which we are pulling out and ordering the factory blanking plate for. That plate will be stored along with all the other OEM bits. We're scanning the two DIN ports and printing a custom double DIN plate to hold an AIM Solo. No holes or mods to the OEM dash that is still in perfect condition.

A part of me wants to take the ad down to stop the phone calls, But I'm gonna keep it up to see when the calls taper off.

Why is it that people advertising >300 HP Miatas never seem to have a recent dyno chart available?
If I were selling a Miata (or any car that made 120 HP in stock form), and claiming 600 HP, I'd include a scan of the dyno chart signed by the dyno operator and witnessed by a notary public, a photo of the dyno operator shaking my hand while holding the printout (with the car sitting on the dyno on the background), and the address and phone number of the shop that did the dyno run.
