And a controlled flight right to the ambulance. Amazing!

Joey Hand revisited....whew-wee!
"Hey, is thing gonna make it?"
"Yep, all the way to the crash site."
That was one hell of a get-off....

After further investigation, it has been ruled that the cause of the accident was due to the extra weight of the tape on the numbers. Used to be "64" - made into "84".....thus unsettling the balance of the car.

I think they need a larger run-off...

In the Lotus forums they posted some shots of the sand trap after the incident. Counted up to 7 post marks approx. 50ft. apart.
This boy was cooking, and long since out of sorts before the trap.

I kept scrolling down thinking, "Okay, the tires will stop him... the fence will stop him... hmm."

Reminds me of the long-crash scene in Talladega Nights. Who keeps the cats on a race-car?

Hoe lee crap! I like the zombie like walk to the ambulance with both arms out in front. I'd be a little dazed too. Tough for a tire wall to stop a car that's airborn and tumbling. Just a good thing the ambulance crew wasn't parked 50' over.

That's the stuff that scares me about HPDE with just a roll bar.

/\ I do too... but it does show enough of why it is more advisable to steer straight and not try to make the turn.
Reports were of possible brake failure, which first reaction should have been to keep car straight to begin with.
Glad to see how well the car held up and the advancements that have been made over the years for this very scenario.

Driver claims the recording device was ejected from the car at that point.
