We don't have long term data for Colorados yet, but can compare 2015 vs 2015 model year

New gas Taco is $40k
Used 2015 Taco is $33k ish, $7k difference

New Gas colorado can be bought for $33k when you get a good deal and catch some rebates
used 2015 Colorado sold for a touch over $30k. $3k difference

Chevy trucks hold their value

Is the premium for the diesel worth it when factoring in the increased cost of gas, maintenance, etc?

If you do the math usually it is not. At least on 3/4 ton+ trucks.

Not sure about the 1/4 tons

Define worth it

If you like the diesel better, that's worth something.

You'll get at least the same amount more in resale though, so the bonus of better fuel economy is just a bonus.

I mean, UREA, more expensive oil changes, etc. I've never owned any type of diesel vehicle (or driven one for that matter) so I don't really have a preference based on that.

It would likely tow a small popup camper, and maybe down the road a lightweight trailer with a Miata on it.

Actually he's probably right: diesel is a game changer, and my brother sells chevy/dodge 4x4 diesels like hotcakes, and they hold value like crazy.

Gasoline, not so much. Taco is still king of that realm.

The example I listed above of 2015 resale value vs new was using gas models. The diesels only came out last year so there's really not much data there. The one used 2016 Diesel we have in stock is listed for $4k off new MSRP.... which is what you can buy a new one for with some rebates.

I mean, weigh it out... I'm just saying the Canyon/Colorado is well worth a look if you're looking in that class. It IS a nicer vehicle than the Tacoma, but not as much of a known quantity.

Test drives are free.

Very true, I believe you. I'm just so up in the air on what to do. Need to the girls house up on the market, decide if I'm going to buy a house here in OKC, etc.

I really do want to be able to get back to the track, but I'd also like a vehicle we can go camping out of. She is finishing up her degree so she doesn't really make anything. And she drives a Smart car so it's not like we are getting all our camping gear and her two dogs in either of our vehicles.

This is probably the 50th discussion we have about "what you're gonna get next"

I am not all that happy with my Tacoma. Sure, it's pretty reliable as far as the drivetrain goes (so far, only 86K). But there are a lot of little things that point to a concerted effort to nickel and dime the costs, resulting in some disappointments.

For instance, there is an aluminum shield on the muffler, held on by steel bolts to steel studs. There is a spot obviously stamped in for an isolation washer, but they are not there. Hence, the shield (which is very thin) has corroded away around the nuts, and I had to remove it before it fell off. There is no rear bed light anymore, when there was one previously. Nothing that is a deal breaker in and of itself, but lots of stupid things that get annoying.

They have incredibly cheap feeling interior materials, particularly when compared with the new GM trucks.

There's a very good reason why the Colorado got MT's TOTY in 2015 AND 2016; the only truck to ever get the award two years in a row.

MSRP is up on there on a diesel in the Z71 or Z2 offroad package! Damn!

Yep a diesel Z71 crew cab is $40,xxx, and a grand more for Bose.

ZR2 is crazy $$, but a pretty unique truck. I'd pass on that, but then again I've never understood the desire to off-road a $40k+ pickup truck.

Well not rock crawling, but having something nice and comfy that will do 300k miles with maintenance and towing a small travel trailer.......99.9% of "off-road" vehicles aren't doing much more than some fire roads and occasional steep gravel climbs.

That's why there are videos of Crown Vics at Moab.
