Gotta love 255 problems, but I dont blame you for selling, I just had the heads redone on my LGT wagon in prep for more power and spent 850 on just parts and labor for the heads. stupid turbo subarus.

18psi 11-07-2017 04:38 PM

I mean, at 189k miles I don't think it owed him any favors, esp considering it's a turbocharged vehicle.

I've been eyeballing the 17+ FXT lately. Biggest paranoia holding me back is the cvt failmission

96morbst 11-07-2017 04:40 PM

Yeah my wagon is at 198K. So kinda the same boat here but I killed my head-gaskets when auto-xing. That car owed me no favors and until i was dumb was okay for a turbo car. I knew it was coming, the wagon is my 4th 05 LGT.

18psi 11-07-2017 04:47 PM

I'm frankly impressed at the lifespans you guys are seeing.

After seeing tons of threads of blown FA's with like 4k miles on em, it's refreshing to see some old girls still truckin

96morbst 11-07-2017 05:06 PM

My LGT wagon had a cushy life before me. an older gentleman owned it and he gave it to his grandson when he got tired of driving a manual. His son drove it until the clutch let go and I bought it. The FA's are a nightmare as much as their owners are. I see at least 1 a week get towed into my dealership, and my friend just spent 18 hours tracing electrical problems down in a car with 4k miles on it. but the owner lawyered up and tried to blame subaru for a can bus problem. come to find out he screwed up a sound system install and fried the key less access control module.

Would love to get into one of the newer XT's those things look sick and drive pretty nice but the CVTs are junk like you said and they have also come in with motor problems.

I solved my motor problems courtesy of manley and a new sti crank and block in my wagon.

Jesus, $2,900 for a naked EJ25 shortblock? :noes: And that's just the "Stage 1"

96morbst 11-07-2017 05:38 PM

Yeah ill keep my sti block with forged internals and pay way less for the same power an IAG block can hold. being im not gonna make more than 420whp ever I have no use for an IAG block or pricetag hahaha.

18psi 11-07-2017 05:41 PM

That's actually reasonable, tbh. I don't know of anyone that does it cheaper, unless you do it yourself or find some backyard sidejob deal. And stg1 is basically enough for most street cars.

I like manley parts. It's common and seems to hold up pretty good. I kinda sorta want to beef up mine, slap on the blouch, and let-er-eat, but no time and no motivation.

Currently I've obsessed over the tune so much that I don't think there's a single setting or map/cell that I haven't revised like 50 times. it feels orgasmic. kinda don't wanna do anything else at this point. 9psi by 2k rpm and 20 by 3k on e85 = perfect street car torque. I posted the chart a while ago, but it should be even smoother and better now.

96morbst 11-07-2017 05:47 PM

Yeah idk for about 2900 I got my block and heads done by a local machine shop that I've used for years. Assembly I can do myself and it will hold what I want for power. With a dom 2.5xtr I don't see the car making crazy power but should still be reasonably street friendly. now my LGT sedan on the other hand will need an IAG block or a custom machined 2.2 closed deck block. but cross that bridge when I get there.

EO2K 11-07-2017 05:48 PM

Does SOA still have OEM EJ20 shortblocks in stock? :giggle:

Oh look, Amazon has my back:

18psi 11-07-2017 06:01 PM

pretty sure they do. also I haz employee pricing ;)

MartinezA92 11-08-2017 12:31 AM

Yea, second for IAG shortblock. I eye them pretty often awaiting the inevitable rod knock.

EO2K 11-08-2017 02:20 PM

How much of an asshole would I be if I jammed a set of Morimoto H1 Elites in my OEM low beam housings?

By "asshole" I mean how bad is the beam pattern going to be? I'm one of those people who actually care about cutoff and oncoming drivers, and I've seen very few HID retrofits in stock housings that actually work properly.

18psi 11-08-2017 05:17 PM

Ohhhhhhh I hate "those" people.

EO2K 11-08-2017 05:42 PM

Yeah, I have no desire to be "that guy."

Unfortunately all the OEM 04-05 STI housings I'm seeing are beat to shit, broken tabs, missing parts, have cracked or gouged lenses, and are listed for $500/pair. :(

18psi 11-08-2017 05:45 PM

I don't remember how bad it is IRL, but I think if you were to at least slightly adjust the beam lower it wouldn't be nearly as bad as "those" peoples.

The worst thing ever is if someone replaces their headlights and doesn't have them aligned properly. Even with regular halogens it blinds everyone.

Just picked up another wagon. This one has an unhealthy motor which will get swapped over during the winter.

GR TMIC , E85, and a VF48 should be more than enough to destroy the 5spd.

18psi 11-09-2017 04:12 PM

nice. 02 or 03?

I have two mint vf48's sitting in my garage if you need one. and Subaru id1000's ;)
