The resale value was already pretty depressing, especially considering I've got rust in the rear fenders.
I'm feeling a little better after sleeping on it. My intention when I bought this car new was to keep it as a stock daily driver for as long as possible, so I'd know how it was taken care of from day one. If it ends up as a salvage title, it'll still make a really fun beater for a few more years. Anyway, I won't know anything until at least Tuesday, when my insurance agent's office opens. Lots of reading to get started on. I can use my Miata as a daily for a while, but I'm little hesitant to cart my daughter around in it on a regular basis after this. |
You have to wait till tuesday? What shitty insurance do you have? Geico could have an adjuster out there today.
|
Safeco insurance because they cover my house as well. It was cheaper than Progressive, so I switched.
I've got a claim number and all that, but yeah... a couple days before it gets looked at. And as it turns out, I get a rental car in the mean time. |

I feel you. (not all subarus on my property pictured)

You've got quite the collection too haha. Not all the subarus in the picture are mine, just the imprezas. The forester and the legacy are my parents.

I'm on my 6th and loving it :)

My clutch pedal was clicking. I searched Subaru forums and almost died. Went under dash put some grease on joints, no more clicking. Guess I didn't need my firewall rewelded...

It's getting more serious. 05 outback xt. Still have research to do but it seems the older eg33 is more of a drop in and shares more internal components with the eg255 than the ez30. Being my daily especially in the winter and my second boy coming this sept, the swap would have to be as simple for me as possible, that generally means no vvt.
The EG33 is an awesome motor too, and can take quite a bit of boost (same rods and pistons as the ej22t) but you'll have to do some modifications to your radiator support to make it fit (the ez engines are a drop in with slim radiator fans). But if you have an XT, just throw an STI turbo, intercooler, and injectors on it and you're good to go. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1401058060 |

are you saying that the firewall issue is not an issue?
cause if so, I got some bad news for you dawg. i could have used replacing the throw out bearing, or replacing the master, or replacing the entire pedal assembly, or replacing the switches, as an example of a "fix" which most people stated didn't work. meanwhile, i just actually got under the dash, pinpointed the source of the click, determined it was the linkage at a certain joint, applied brake caliper grease, and now it's smooth and doesn't click. i will continue to gamble with my spot welds... |
reason I say it is cause 08-10 GR/GV is the most commonly affected by that issue.
in fact just had this happen to a local guy a couple months back |

If you're thinking of an H6 swap and want more of a "drop in" the ez30d from a 2002 is your best bet. I did that swap into the green OBS in my pictures and it was my DD for about three years. Such a fun car. The throttle response and low end torque can't compare to any turbo EJ engine.

What ECU is controlling it, and what modifications were required to do so? You don't have to cut your rad support for this swap it looks like, that is a HUGE plus. Also, what about a/c - would it be easy enough to keep? I don't see swapping my forester again anytime soon (as of now its running an 07 2.5i motor, and it's great), but that might be my dream subie setup.. a foz with a mild lift and this swap would be amazing. |

Also, looks like this is the place to whore out my forester. I just did a full cleaning of it for the first time, and she really cleans up pretty nicely :) Total invested is around ~$1400 if you include everything. Chassis was $700 with a blown motor, 07 2.5i motor ($300) HG job, oem gaskets/pulleys/gates timing belt/waterpump, radiator cap, ebay UEL, HID lights (amazing value), cheapo horns(work awesomely), skid plate (diy), and I think that is about it. It's a clean title with ~145k on the clock, I've put near 5k on it myself without a single drop of oil/coolant missing. It's probably worth near 4-5k now

I am stoked that I made the move I did. The Miata is going to be a much better car in the log run. I got sick of dumping money into a car that sees winters in MN. Rust happens, no matter how many times I use my unlimited car wash pass. So picking up a turbo DD and miata + turbo build happened. My 2005 LGT Limited Has some mods but trying to keep it as is. Off the top of my head... HTA68 FMIC Spec B Suspension GrimmSpeed EBCS (added so we could tune) SS Brake Lines StopTech Streets (added after i picked up, brakes were in bad shape, slider pins seized, bleeders stripped... will rebuild the calipers later this summer) COBB Dual Adjustable SS Anarchy Motive Shift Knob - pulled from my WRX Kartboy Shifter Bushings kit HIDs lows / fogs Unknown DP and Catback GS Up-pipe COBB AP V2 - was running a crap OTS map, we tuned it within 4 hours of ownership. Cear headlights (crap job, need to bake and clean) Red Tails??? IDK what is different because I am new to the LGT game but he did something to the tails. PO is dropping off (sometime in July) - SS clutch lines, TurboSmart BPV and a few other things. PO also sucked at keeping cars in good shape. Being a forum mod and long standing member of our local subie club I figured he would be a good car guy. Got the car with no "known" issues. Took that in good faith, lesson learned :vash: About 40+ hours into the car with less than 2k on the OD. Lots of TLC is still needed but I want to bust ass through it and get the LGT back to life so I can focus on my true project car. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1404838799 |
