it's a sexy sexy car.
this one was a white 15 limited, in other words: the exact one I would get if I got one.

I wanted a white one until I realized it was a pearl white. I hate pearl white, to me, like black it always looks dirty. My 350Z was pearl white.

My Mustang was "Pure White" which I love. I'm starting to think about another 5.0. I'd order exactly what I did at the end of 2012.

White base model with the Performance Pack.

But I've learned from the past, if you can't decide what to do, don't do anything at all (when it comes to making a change that you don't HAVE to make). 'Cause I also really like the idea of the Focus RS since it ticks the performance boxes, but it is a bit more practical.

^wise words my friend. That's sorta what got me to keep the stook and put off the ND. I still had doubts about swapping the stook for the ND, so I decided to buy a motorcycle instead

z31maniac 07-22-2016 02:09 PM

See, I'd like an ND too! I miss having a convertible. Assuming the GWR header/tune is on pump gas is pulling 40whp more than stock.......if the stock fuel system will do E85 that's probably another 15whp. 2300lbs and 200whp would be damn tasty.

ND + XIDAs/6ULs + GWR header/tune...............that would be a damn fun car. And I love the looks.

Maybe I'll go drive one after work for the hell of it.

Boost buggies and mustangs are going to have way more expensive consumables.

turbofan 07-22-2016 02:38 PM

If you like the ND's seats or plan to change them, it's an incredibly compelling package.

That seriously is what killed it for me. Took a 90 minute drive in one, got out with a backache. Got straight in the stook, backache gone. If it were racecar and would get better seats, I wouldn't even care. But I'm not changing the seats in whichever car fills this purpose, especially where the Miata Club has awesome headrest speakers that work really really well. nope.

So, I wait.

Chilicharger665 07-25-2016 06:41 AM

What in the world is wrong with the ND seats?? These are the first stock seats in any of my 6 Miatas that hasn't given me terrible back aches 30 minutes into the ride. I just got back from a 7 hour drive, actually. They are the best stock Miata seats ever.

turbofan 07-26-2016 01:12 AM

I dunno. I've heard lots of people say they're good seats, best stock Miata seats, etc. And they very well may be, but it's been years since I've spent much time in stock Miata seats. But compared to the S2000 seats, they're freaking horrible IMO.

maybe I need to take one out again.

I have a noise from the front left wheel on my '05 OBXT. My initial thought was wheel bearing, but I've pulled it off and it seems fine. I'm going to replace it anyway, since I have it off and I have a new one, but I noticed there is a little play in the axle. No rotational play, only a small amount of axial play in the outer joint. Is that a symptom of a failed CV joint? It seems to flex fine, the boot is fine, etc.

If I should replace the axle, where is a good place to get a replacement? A quick search of the Googles leaves me skeptical of remanufactured, but brand new units are expensive. Is there an online place to get a good remanufactured one?

At the beginning of *winter when I changed the oil in the WRX I used the factory recommended 5W-30. Based on what I read elsewhere on the intertubes (probably BITOG) "You can't go wrong with Penzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum" and because I found Ultra on sale for the same price as the Platinum, I went with the Ultra. I mean, why wouldn't you buy a product called Ultra, right? I do a lot of short hop commute BUT I always warm up the car for a minimum of 3 minutes before I take off down the street, and the first 3 miles of my commute is 25/35mph so I feel like I'm babying the motor and oil up to temp. I want this car to last forever after all. So I've been patiently waiting for the factory recommended 3,750 mile interval (yes, even with full synthetic) to tick over and as expected, its taken nearly 6 months. This last weekend it was time for an oil change and I switched the car over to Rotella T6 5W-40 because its *summer so I figured a little heavier couldn't hurt, plus that's what I had on hand.

Holy shit guys, the engine sounds SO much better.

Now from what I understand the EJ20 is a solid lifter motor (much like the BP) so I expect a little valve train noise, but the change from the Penzoil to the Rotella made a significant and dramatic change in the mechanical cacophony that is my 12 year old Subaru flat 4. Dramatic enough that I decided to post about an oil change. I noticed that the when the Penzoil was not exactly hot (probably around 140°) that shit flowed like water and I know from experience that the Rotella actually seems to have some body to it when hot enough to cook my skin off. I don't have a real OPG or OTG so I can't tell you if there were changes in the pressures or temps, but there is no part of my driving that does not sound better with the Rotella compared to the Penzoil. I ran the Rotella last summer* and I noticed zero consumption. With the Penzoil, I lost a full quart (topped up over time) during my change interval. I don't know if its the turbo shearing down the oil with heat and pressure, or maybe my sloppy 12 year old EJ just really needs something slightly heavier.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure I'm a fan of these ultra light body modern synthetics.

* Remember I live in coastal CA so seasons are relative.

I use rotella on everything. Even on hustler

EO2K 08-02-2016 04:25 PM

Even on the Brostang and the CT200h?

TurboTim 08-02-2016 04:29 PM

So I scheduled the front passenger airbag replacement for next week on my '05 OBXT. How many rattles will the car have when I get it back?

I have to remove my boost and WBO2 gauges from the dash cubby less they destroy them.

lol by everything I mean Subaru/miata, cars that actually can run it and not still under warranty
the bro-stang is under warranty so I can only use ford approved oils, so I use AMSOIL, and the lexus takes 0w20 unicorn water because #empeegeez

do they actually have the replacement in stock finally?

z31maniac 08-02-2016 05:36 PM

So when are you doing the new power package for the brostang?

I'm betting the intake/throttle body + E85 tune = 500hp

18psi 08-02-2016 05:43 PM

Dude, I keep slowly accumulating parts and still have yet to install anything but the wheels. It's so weird, I'm just happy with the car, and not in any rush to mod it. This is the 1st time this happened.

Shit. I need to do this too but apparently they forgot to send replacements to the west coast

Not where I'm at. BTW, how is this supposed to work? They claim they won't make the appointment for me until they have stock in the warehouse, but every time I call they just ran out ...but don't worry because they have my number and they'll call me as soon as they can get them. :vash:

The way Ford works I'm surprised they allow you to use AMSOIL and not force you into Motorcraft fluids.

Rotella in my Tundra, RX7, Montero Sport, Highlander, T100 pickup and more over the years. Tundra has 370k miles, T100 has been sold to a customer of mine but has 430k on unopened engine. I put it in my oatmeal.

Same here, Miata, G35, FXT, and now after it's first oil change my new Honda lawn mower.

Leafy 08-02-2016 09:58 PM

I'm down to only rotella in the wrx. I took it out of the daily driver miata because it doesnt last long until lifter tick again since its the auto-x car this year. The 9 dollar a quart vr1 is holding up longer, we'll see if its long enough.

sixshooter 08-03-2016 07:47 AM

You aren't supposed to run motor oils with detergents in engines without oil filters (most small lawn mowers). Detergents envelop contaminants and more easily enable them to be captured by the filter media.
