Default Did not know how fast this car is till now.

Have had the MSM up and running for a few months and I knew it was quick but today I found out it's as fast or faster from a 50 roll than friends 2016 Supercharged Zo6 C7 Corvette. Little thing a beast. Thanks for all the help over the years on the build and 18PSI for the rockstar tune on 93. Now I'm curious to buy one of those "dragy" things to really see how fast it is. Anyone have one? I have and app on my phone that logged a 4.3 0-60 wheel hopping all the way and having to shift to 3rd before 60(3:63) gear, though that was good. Hope warmer weather coming will help in the traction area.

Yes, they are fast. My NB2 was faster than a 997 Turbo when it only run 17-18psi. I'm now at 29psi and it feels like it wants to kill me every other day if I'm not careful, which is moderately terrifying.

I guess mentally I always held the high end corvettes at a higher standard than out little 4 banger econo boxes. The 997 Turbo would be a achievement. It's all about the power to weight.....I could only imagine my powertrain in a exocet or kart chassis ....with room for a big tire. My MSM is full weight, AC PS all the interior; its heavy for a Miata.

It's important to remember the distinction between "quick" and "fast." A 911 Turbo or the aforementioned Corvette aren't built to just prioritize agility and acceleration at streetish speeds. Get them on a long road course or an unrestricted highway and they'll show you what their extra cost, weight, power, and stability are for. This is something I was reminded of back when I rode sport bikes that could do 11s in the quarter mile but topped out at 150 MPH or less, too. At a certain speed power-to-weight starts mattering less than power-to-drag.

The foregoing is not meant to detract from the riotous good time that a 4 second 0-60 Miata must be. In the real world, where we'd prefer not to go to jail or leave the road at triple digits, the quick hairdresser car is sure to be more exciting and entertaining, even before factoring in bang-for-the buck or sleeper status.

I got into miatas just from watching sleepers mop up muscle cars on youtube years ago. A basic 2560R kit with good supporting mods and anyone can do it.
How little money it takes (compared to newer platforms or already fast cars) to get noticably faster is as rewarding as it is addicting

Love it
(I'll respond to your email shortly too)

I too was pleasantly surprised that a miata at around 400 actually feels faster and more insane than my mustang at 800.

I've got one. From all the comparisons I've seen of people using a dragy at the same time as running down a drag strip, the elapsed time along with the speed appears to be pretty accurate. I think it's definitely a good tool for comparison purposes (before and after mods, etc.).

You ever get that Dragy? I have one and tested many times at the track. It is very, very close to timeslips on average.

One word of caution though when calling out blown corvettes. In unmodified form they are fairly quick for stock, but still are nothing really special in so far as drag racing goes, It doesnt take a tremendous amount to make those things real runners. One of the people who runs at track I go to has gotten his into the 5.90s at around 113-114ish mph without pulling the motor.

Nice work! It's the gearing, in addition to the power/wegiht, that makes them so quick.

I'm reminded of running on the track with a guy in a bolt on c5z. In the pits he mentioned that my car was pulling away from him on the straights, and that was at ~10psi/250whp. The car at 310whp definitely makes more jam, might hang with a c6 for a bit.
