12.1 with those changes is impressive. I'm assuming the ecu flash makes some big changes- no?

I wouldnt consider them.. "cheater" cars. Yes, riceboys love them, since they are easy to make fast, however the cars are scary fast. I had a 98 GSX with a TON invested and I have to say they are silly fast. Most of the first gen DSMs are even faster then the STI/EVO crowd, and those are the ones to watch out for.

i just don't see the numbers panning out and actually working in the real world, a 200rwhp miata still isn't fast, in the real world an sti or evo should kill it

I don't know how it pans out in this scenario but you have to consider alot of different things when looking at a race on paper:
lb/whp (and torque) ratio
gearing
power and torque average over driver selected rpm range
drag coefficient (big deal over 80 mpg or so)

I pulled on c5 z06's very easily at 263whp in my turbo vr6...it was absurd at 381whp. It didn't hurt that i set them up at 2700rpm in 3rd gear every time. 3200 rpm made 320lb/ft, and 404 at 4k-7800rpm...3rd goes all the way out to 111mph too.

It doesn't hurt that our car weighs 31% less than the evo IX at 3263lb. So in comparison, the evo has a 62whp deficiency or the miata a 62whp advantage, which is actually 75 crank hp penalty with typical 22% evo awd drivetrain loss, too keep up with the miata if the miata weighed out at the evo's weight with all other variable staying equal...which they don't.

Well, from eXperience! SUB-200whp miatas do not have any problem with stock evo's or sti's.

Mine is a factory turbo MX-5, but there's no way I'm keeping it stock. I don't know anyone who has a factory turbo car that is stock for that matter!

I would say that the vaste majority of the MSpeed owners I have met have left their's factory. We will be purchasing a Lava in a few months and plan on installing the big enchallada for 270 HP. Still won't keep up with Beast but it will have A/C and a stereo <G>.

Nice! I really like mine, but I've got an AEM intake coming and I'd like to do the FM dump pipe and some kind of boost controller to run 10 pounds. Hopefully I'll be happy with that for a while because the next step is $$$.

My officemate here has a lightly modified (K&N shortram) STi. At 9psi my Miata is dead even with it from a 15mph roll-on to 100+mph.

Street racing is pure lameness and those who take STi's and Evo's street racing do their cars a great diservice as the lineage of those cars is not rooted in this Fast and Furious crap. Any monkey can drive fast in a straight line from stoplight to stoplight.
