Welcome to the club!

My turbo **** the bed and just as I was starting to work on it I broke my hand all to ****. 3 surgeries, 5 pins, $23000 and 5 months later I just started boxing again. Also able to work on the car too.

15psi and a fairly agressive tune. Oil was fine, I checked it at the first tick noise I heard. No oil pressure problems, ran fine, no smoke. For a couple days prior, it sounded like a faint, low pitched HLA noise. I couldn't figure out wtf it was for the life of me. The engine had unknown mileage, I had personally put about 60-70k on it. I accelerated from a light, gave a smidge of boost in2nd (maybe 5psi) and the ticking got loud, I was about 2 miles from home so I decided to push it. Cruisng about 55 in 5th there was a big thud and smoke came out of everywhere and chunks of metal flew behind my car. I think it was due to fuel contamination in my oil. I had a leaky cyl 4 injector.

Don"t feel too bad. Last week a rod started knocking on mine so I pulled it. I found 4 broken top rings, 4 bent rods, #1 rod bearing destroyed and the #1 & #5 main bearings on their way out. Back to the machine shop she goes. At least the crank, pistons and block are salvageable.

It was an expensive lesson in tuning and knowing the limits of my setup.

Sadly if a rod puts a hole in my block it's a 1.8 install and I'll be selling off the turbo setup. I'm going to play it safe until then. Not.
