FACK: oil up $10 dollars a today.
we're not talking about saturn vue, toyota rav4 or honda CRV utes. most of those are just compact cars with big bodies. i have no problem with that. I support that.
it just seems silly for a single driver to commute 50 miles a day in a 6000 lb car. i dont mind people *owning* them. take it on dates. drive off road. whatever you like to do.
but with the price of gas where it is, it'd be cheaper to keep the 10mpg SUV for fun-only trips and lease a 45mpg SMART to commute in.
$4 gas @ 10mpg x 50 miles a day x 20 work days = $400.00
$4 gas @ 45mpg x 50 miles a day x 20 work days + 275/mo payment = $363.80
score. and you can park the smart in the SUV in the garage.

I agree with that. Thats exactly what I do. I dont have a smart but I drive the Miata as much as possible and I make sure my wife drives the Sonata. We only really use the Expedition and F-150 when we really need to.
