I'm glad these adult children living at home have found other peers to live a depressing life with.
Do you have evidence to back up your claim that they are all living at home with their parents? And the fact that they lead depressing lives is only an opinion of yours (and mine). I don't see it as any more harmful than a lot of other time wasting things that people do in their free time.

I have a friend who owns a very nice home, in a much nicer area of town then I do, who regularly enjoys watching Adventure Time. That is a children’s cartoon he most certainly does not live at home, so not a valid argument.

So adults aren't allowed to watch Saturday morning cartoons? That's bullshit!

Can I drive go-karts? Or does that make me too much of a kid?

How about play laser tag? We need a list of acceptable childrens activities that can be enjoyed by adults.

You know for a bunch of self-styled conservatives, you seem to care quite a bit about what others do.

My barracks room mate has an "action figure" from adventure time and has the Halo Master Chief "action figure, they are in the stand-up 69. Master Chief is the one standing in case you where wondering.

You can watch them, but things change when you start putting stickers on your car and going to meetings to discuss said cartoons. You wouldn't state that these cartoons are a defining feature of your identity.

So what?

What about grown men who think about nothing but football. They watch football constantly, wear clothing with football team logos, have football bumper stickers, and participate in a fantasy football league?

I dont get it. I could easily argue that it is more obsessive, pointless, and stupid than MLP.

But this kind of thing is totally accepted in our society. These kinds pf people are so common that every other movie coming out of Hollywood has one of these guys written in as a character.

When talking with a total stranger you can say "Did you catch the game?" or mention your fantasy football league and nobody would bat an eye. They probably wont even remember you like football the next time you meet because its such a boring fact.
Yet, if you say you like MLP in the same situation that person is going to think you are ******* nuts. They will think you have aspergers, which you probably do since you just committed social suicide.

funny you mention suicide, this is a serious problem that can lead to actual suicide, Board-crtified doctors write articles on it:

Bronies

Parents and pediatricians often have a hard time understanding why a teen would start being a brony or do other things to shame themselves. Not surprisingly, bronyism is a complex behavioral problem and is often associated with a variety of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, etc.

Teens who consider themselves bronies may also be more likely to have friends who are alos bronies, and have low self-esteem, a history of abuse, and/or thoughts of committing suicide.

Why do these children begin watching My Little Pony in the first place? While it is sometimes seen as an attention seeking behavior, many experts think that being a brony is a way for these kids to release tension, relieve feelings of sadness or anger, or simply to try and distract themselves from their problems. Of course, any relief, if it occurs, will only be temporary.

And while some of these teens who are My Little Pony may have a friend who does it too or may have read about it or seen it on TV, most kids who start being a brony were influenced by Reddit.

Signs of Brony

Bronyism is most common in teens and young adults, especially teen girls, and often starts at around age 14 or 15.

In addition to being associated with depression and anxiety, teens who are bronies are also usually described as being impulsive. Some are also described as being overachievers.

Signs that your teen is cutting may include that he/she:
  • always wears My Little Pony shirts
  • routinely spends all time online and has no friends
  • is developing symptoms of depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, or changes in her usual mood
  • has trouble controlling his/her emotions or emotional states, for example, your teen doesn't know how to handle himself/herself when he/she feels sad or angry
  • Ask your child if you think he/she is a brony, or seek professional help first, but most importantly, don't get mad, don't overreact, and don't ignore your child's bronyism or other self-harm behaviors.

Treatments for Bronies

It is important to seek treatment for your teen who is a brony, both to help with any underlying psychiatric problems, like depression or anxiety, and because being a brony can become a habit they can't stop.

The S.A.F.E. Alternatives (Self Abuse Finally Ends) treatment program describes bronies as an 'ultimately a dangerous and futile coping strategy which interferes with intimacy, productivity and happiness.'

In addition to treating their underlying depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions, teens who are cutting should be evaluated and treated:
  • by a counselor or psychologist who has experience treating teens with this condition
  • with others in a brony or self-harm support group
  • when necessary, in a treatment center that has experience treating teens who harm themselves
  • Treatment for bronies will likely focus on helping the teen develop healthier coping mechanisms when faced with feelings of anger, stress, or sadness, etc., help boost their self-esteem, help manage other underlying psychiatric problems, such as depression or anxiety, and to make sure the teen isn't having thoughts of suicide.

An evaluation by a child psychiatrist might also be a good idea for further treatment ideas, which might include antidepressant when necessary.

I agree with the assessment that people who obsess over sports that they aren't playing themselves are a bit suspect.

I watch South Park and enjoyed Ren and Stimpy but don't attend conventions or "dances" with a bunch of other dudes to celebrate my affinity for Stan Marsh. I'm also under the impression that those shows are not written for a target audience of elementary school girls.
