Default what tire will last longer on the track?

azenis or ra-1's? Whats the trade off on a grippier tire that won't slide as much

azenis are not a good track tire in my opinion, they get "greasy" after a couple of laps.If you want a dedicated track tire you can't go wrong with the Ra1 shaved to 4/32 or the nitto nt01 at full tread(not sure if the nitto is available in miata friendly sizes)

If you are looking for a street/track tire you might want to check out the hankook rs2...

Not sure if it will help you at all, but the RA-1 is the official Spec Miata tire.

i have shitty kumho ecsta 711's now, and I killed the front right after 5 sessions. There is no sense in me buying RA-1's if I'm going to kill a tire after one track day.

you're looking at a "DOT legal" R-compound competition tire vs. a street tire.

the Toyo will be a better track tire, bar-none.

FWIW, i got more wear on my RT-215s from one autox than from 3 track days.

heat cycled RA-1 will outlast azenis on the track. azenis will heat up and disintegrate.

Thanks. I'm guessing that's what happens on street tires, and why I'm ripping through them so fast?

Can I get tires up to temp on the street, so they are heat cycled before I get to the race track?

You don't need to heat cycle or shave ra-1s. Toyo doesn't recommend either.

yes, plenty, at least of full season, which is like 10 races, 2 days an event, with practice, qualifying and the race.

Tirerack will heat cycle tires for you and let them cool during shipping. I did it all the time when I was running Hoosiers, but it seems the Toyos don't need it.

so tehy do last longer than street tires. I think I'm going to pick up a set for dedicated track use.

I agree with the greasyness statement on the azenis. I have much else to contribute...
