Curiously, while researching another post I noticed that, although separate from the televised programme, a Caterham 7 CSR (260 bhp inline 4) was run on the track by Dunlop as part of their "injection" web series, and turned a 1:17.4, which puts it just above the Koenigsegg CCX (with wing) and just below the Ascari A10.

As Han Solo said "she's fast enough for you, old man."

I would plumb the exhaust into the cabin for good measure. Want a ride? Take it for a spin.

LSx would be the only way a Smart would become decent.

Here's another car that might fit the bill for me as well. I definitely like how it looks. Diva Sports Cars This is probably a better representation of what one of these things would weigh after it's all said and done as well.

You've never seen this video, have you?

This thread is quickly becoming "our dream kit cars that JayL will write down next to his bread and butter grocery list." I love it.

Embed fails!

If its that stupid ******* drag race video with the Ferrari, then yes. I have to hear about how my co-workers Smart could beat a Ferrari with a Hayabusa engine in it... congratufuckinglations!!! Its still a stupid looking tiny car for hippies and trendy people. But yes, I like this thread. Keep it going, just leave the greatest car ever dreamed of by man out of it.

Let me repeat what JayL said: he wants a street/DRAG car. once agian: STREET/DRAG!! Meaning he wont give even 50% of a **** about cornering/handling like you guys. At least thats what I'm getting out of that statement. You keep talking aero/weight distribution, etc etc etc but for a DRAG car that would be cool on the street an LSx with turbo and an auto or some sort of race auto would be PERFECT. It has to be crazy. Whats crazier than a turbo LSx miata with absolutely ridiculously insane hp output? Not very many things.

I very sincerely think that something along the lines of what mikef85 is putting together is what JayL would be very satisfied with Just my .02

Attachment 205020
Leave the cornering/handling/weight distribution/useable power to the road race junkies. It has to be insane. I approve of his statement

This might be his style, Factory Five Type 65 Coupe
Champ Car Coupe

It weighs 2572lbs, with a crate Ford 392 it makes 440hp. 0-60 3.6 and does the 1/4 in the 11's.

I wouldn't call it "insane", but fun? Sure.

I gotta say I prefer the FFR coupe to the roadster. Just a few grand more and you've got something really different (compared to a Cobra) and it's gotta be more practical having a roof and windows.

I had never heard of the Sonic and Rocket. I like the Sonic. Looks a little weird, but I like it. Kindof like a street legal SAE Formula car.

I love the fact that is only 7 seconds slower than the 800 hp FXX supercar. With some tweaking that can be one badass machine.

That pretty much sums it up, but I'm enjoying this thread too much to ask people to limit comments to cars that exactly fit what I'm looking for. There was a time in my life when I ran an E36 on a road course, but I've moved on so those days will probably stay in my past. But every now and then I really want to start going to the track again.

I do find it funny about some of the comments though. I'm sure there was a day many years ago on a wine and cheese Miata forum when people said that any kind of turbo on a Miata would kill the balance and ruin the car. Someone went and did it and others started to think it wasn't such a bad idea. Nowadays, 220 seems to be very common and relatively easy to do, many people even say it's fast. I don't. My idea of fast is a bit different than most others, I don't know why but it is. I think a car can be built and setup so that it can have a ton of power, yet keep the balance that will make it fun to drive.

My only objection to a V8 in this context is that there's no need for it. You can get the same HP (with less torque at the bottom but a lot more at the top) out of the stronger inline 4s as you can from an average N/A V8.

Now granted, if you take an LS7 and top it with a couple of turbos, then you're in a power : weight class right there with the Saturn V.

The more I read this thread, the more I want a VStorm and an Ultima Can-Am and a Factory Five GTM.

Having read Jay's current car build thread and seen the progress and all the wonderful and badass things he has done to it, I can only imagine what this next project will be like

Here's another twist to think about. Let's forget 4 or 8 cylinder engines all together for a few moments. Anyone ever build an electric car?

I would imagine anything you could do with electric built would negate the lightness of the car. You could possibly keep the weight reasonable, but you wouldn't get more than a few passes before it was all used up, and it would still weight more than it would be worth. Plus costly. 10 years from now, maybe, now, stick with gas.
