Just... What are you? I mean, you had this 2000 Altima that is super clean, yet you drag raced it, autocrossed it, and randomly put too-big of wheels on it that are super retarded, yet you are one of the biggest CR.net hating mofos out there, with your practicality-and purpose-based agruments. I mean, that pic by the ghetto gas station wall. Why does that even exist? Did you think it looked cool? Was it an exceptionally sunny day? Did you like the contrast of the patina on the peeling-paint brick wall from your shiny new Discount Tire Special rimz? Were you admiring the tacky chrome bar across the front of the car? Or did you just get your vanity plate and thought it was cool to advertise that your stock Altima was a stick?
Confused. |
the first time i got rear ended i bought this wheels with tires with the cash since i needed tires anyways. one day i ran into a curb and bent two of them and got the others pictured for 125 and put the sane tires on them.
the pic was taken in 2002 at a carwash after i washed it...i think i have a pic of it covered in bird shit beforehand. i thought the plate was cool during the nissan shift_ marketing campaign. it beat I D351GN that i had on it when i first started art school. at one point i had a stillen exhaust and cold air intake. jealous? my other friends had cars like mustangs and camaros with 500hp... my parents wouldn't let me get the eclipse gsx i wanted. |
LOL at comparing the typical CR car to the DD Altima.

I was mostly just messing around. But not completely. |
I'm going to give you some honest advice. Never buy an old Mercedes, unless it's diesel or you plan on putting a reliable drivetrain in it. Don't ask.
|
Hmm those taxi old school benz were pretty good. THe ones with the double headlights. I remember seeing many with 300k km on them.

LOL @ This thread.. like 98% of the vehicles don't even come close to the OP's "fuel efficient" requirement

Edit: +11 more on the Protege. I have a 2000 ES 1.8L myself, gets about 28mpg and runs like a top with about 240k miles on it. Had to replace the wheel bearings, alternator, A/C Compressor, tires, brakes. Has FAR more get-up-and-go than my GF's 2005 D17 automatic 2 door civic. |
I really want this car so I can swap an SR20DE in it, but the price is about $1000 too high.

Another proponent for the 323 here. My neighbor (who is a 30-year Mazda tech) had one with 420k on it, and he drove it to the point where it would use a quart of oil a day back and forth to work before he sold it. He bought it in 2001 with 220k on it for $300, drove it for 10 years, and sold it for $300.
Mk2 VW's aren't bad cars, but you have to deal with the electrical gremlins on a daily basis. I have an '89 Jetta Carat with the Digifant2 injection system and though it is the stupidest injection system I've ever encountered, it has yet to leave me stranded with 240k on it. Best $400 I ever spent. The key is to get the base-of-the-base model with the least amount of electrical anything. |

Ever given the Mazda Millenia a thought? Comes with a supercharged Miller cycle engine, and is pretty damn nice inside. Gets good gas mileage too for a sedan. I picked mine up for just over 3k which is a little more than the price discussed, but not too much.

The protege version is four door obviously but a bg chassis 323 / protege is light, really cheap to buy and fix and you won't worry about it. The car pictured got 750km / tank (~38mpg imp) with 82 hp and ~650km / tank (~33mpg imp) with 230-240whp. It was fun, decent on gas, reliable (parts familiarity) and as was pointed out about the car another member was driving at the time, gaudy. This car is the reason I'm considering an MS3 for a dd. |

I hope not! Mine has nearly 200K on it. But most of them have the regular KL engine found in the MX-6. Those are pretty reliable.
|
I looked at the Millenia S and yes, they are over my budget.

Guess you got one of the good ones. I was looking at one a few years ago so I went to a forum for them... Pages and pages of "engine blown" threads. A good friend of mine had one that let go at 123k and that is fairly common. At least as common as Saturn 1.9's going pop (friend of mine had one of those pop too) :giggle: |
I think this thread has gone of the track here.. are we looking for something that goes fast or a mpg beater to get you from point a to point b?
